In the short while between the release of the clip for "Strictly Game," Harlem Shake's first and only official music video for Technicolor Health , and the band's untimely dissolution, I somehow missed the chance to post it. I'm remedying that now. The video's an extremely clever homage to the fan-made photo montages that litter YouTube - you'll notice the band blinking in the shots. This video is incredible. It parodies those terrible slideshow videos people are always making for YouTube. But it does it in a way that makes your realization of what's going on grow gradually throughout the length of the video. I was laughing out loud-- it's brilliant!
How annoying are music videos on Youtube that are nothing but a collection of rotating band photos? That's more or less the concept behind the Harlem Shakes new video for "Strictly Game" off their recent Technicolor Health . What looks like a photo slideshow is actually a belabored video parody—or as I like to call it, music video freeze tag. You know those billions of fan-made music videos on YouTube where they are essentially just a bunch of Google Images compiles to switch over the song? Harlem Shakes do; their new video for "Strictly Game" references those to a T (including the simple intro screen), and for a while it seems like it is just like them, except that all of the pictures are actually videos of the band trying to hold their poses because they don't have enough cheesy promo shots.
