Check this great short film catching Bowleg Favourites The Luyas performing as part of the Pop Montreal festival. Here's the info: "The idea was to melt people into letting their guard down, so Ruby, Jessie, and Derrick got permission to build a paper forest. With paper and light and other things that the Luyas dragged up off the streets, they built their weird world. There was a mountain, a waterfall, trees, and falling leaves. There was a monster playing a piano, and there were swamp creature dancers. Naturally, Vincent Moon collaborated [...]
Last October, The Luyas put together a multi-media experience at Pop Montreal. They transformed the space at Red Bird studios using lighting and sculpture into an entirely new psychedelic world to house their musical performance. Takeaway Show's Vincent Moon with editing help from A Story Told Well's Derrick Belcham captured the performance in the above video titled "Everything Is Outta Sight." It is a visual and aural spectacle, a truly special moment preserved in this stunning video. Following [...]
The Luyas are my new musical obsession.

Bill Whitten of Grand Mal You know the drill by now. Here's a ton of music that most other sites would put up one-post-at-a-time, but you get it in one simple post. So many artists featured I would take more time to read them than scroll through them. Videos are below the track postings. The Dodos - "Don't Stop" Man/Miracle - "Don't Waste It" Agnes Obel - "Brother Sparrow" Ghost Animal - "Young And [...]
It is a good day to exist my friends, because The Luyas ' stunning new record " Too Beautiful to Work " was released yesterday and our ears are filled with wonderful sounds. Mysterious, haunting, beautiful sounds unlike anything else you are likely to encounter. You should go, now, to Idée Fixe Records where you can stream the full album , download two tracks and where you can, nay must!, buy it. There is a dreamy quality that coats the album. Jessie Stein's unique voice reaches out plaintively as the music swirls and builds, until things [...]
The Luyas have got a hefty round of touring ahead of them that starts this Thursday. They'll be hitting the road with Ra Ra Riot , Liam Finn , and The Dodos (full schedule below). In addition, they have a short film (at 18 minutes, we can't call it a video, which is above) created with Derrick Belcham and Vincent Moon. The Luyas tour dates: Dates marked * w/ Ra Ra Riot Dates makred + w/ Liam Finn Dates marked ^ w/ The [...]
The buoyant and spirited title track to The Luyas ' Too Beautiful To Work opens their sophomore disc with a lot of promise. Its quirky rhythm and melodies, the textured arrangement, all come together to form a very beguiling proposition. The rest of the album isn't as easy to love right off the bat. Take the second song, "Worth Mentioning" for example. Here, the textures get rough and ragged, shredding the song's finer points into a pulpy mess by the end of it's 3:48. It's the Freddy Kreuger to the album opener's Fred [...]
