Why does it seems like people constantly sleep on Hip-Hop music that's made by our neighbors to the north? Some of my favorite artists are from Canada, and Shad definitely falls underneath that umbrella alongside Classified. My friend Aaron told me to check out Shad a while back, and I downloaded his material, but I never really gave his music the chance that it deserved. I started listening to The Old Prince quite a bit after a while, but for some reason I never gave TSOL any spins; I would later come to find [...]

East Vancouver’s Shad and Miracle Fortress came out to Saturday to represent at Fortune Sound Club. A nominee for 2007 Polaris Music Prize, Miracle Fortress is another one of Secret City Record’s gems. Explained as “bedroom club,” their indie pop sound is highly versatile, delivering heavy tech sounds and plenty of reverb. Most of the kids I chatted to post show had no idea who Miracle Fortress were before tonight - but every single one of ‘em said they would check the band out [...]
So I've been wracking my brain over this list all week and am pretty stoked to get it posted. Instead of doing the standard "Top 103, I'm going to do 10 albums from '10 that I think matter. These, for some reason or another, have stuck with me more than anything else I've listened to over the past 12 months. I know I'm missing other amazing and important albums, but this is my post, get your own. 10. Shad - T.S.O.L The beginning of the Summer dropped one of my most anticipated albums of the year. [...]

Though you might be tempted to spend your Halloween at one of those Banana Jam Boat plays the hits of INXS-type shows, might we suggest some straight-up, intelligent, fun hip-hop at Middle East Downstairs this Sunday night? We've had our eye on Canadian rapper Shad since he earned a 2008 Polaris Prize nomination for The Old Prince . "Compromise," from that stellar album, introduced us to a self-aware, down-to-earth artist who somehow finds a way to naturally address bad first drafts, confusing tax forms and God's call to serve the [...]

Canadian rapper Shad is coming to The Highline Ballroom in New York City tonight, October 28th, as part of his tour with K-Os. His latest album TSOL was nominated for the Polaris Prize (a highly prestigious Canadian music award), and was just released in America earlier this month by Decon. Check out his song " Yaa I Get It (Oddisee Remix) " here . The Kenya-born, Ontario-raised rapper has been pegged by the faithful as a new standard bearer for [...]

Shad @ Pianos - BV-CMJ 2008 ( more by Kyle Dean Reinford ) Canadian rapper Shad did pretty alright by getting two albums in a row nominated for Canada's Polaris Prize . Impressive, despite his 2010 record TSOL not winning - that honor went to Montreal's French-singing Karkwa . Shad will be on tour this October along with fellow Canuck K-OS . That includes an October 28th NYC [...]
The time has come! Here is the final part on reviewing the 2010 Polaris Music Prize shortlist nominees. This time it is Shad 's TSOL. TSOL is the second album by London, Ontario rapper Shad. Even Shad doesn't know what TSOL stands for and he wants his fans to interpret its meaning. There is something about Canadian rap/hip-hop that makes its so good without being too commercialized to our American counterparts. TSOL is thirteen tracks what you can say his serious and best work to [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive While some rappers fill tracks with boast of prowess in the bedroom and on the microphone, scholarly rapper Shad refuses to dumb it down. Between tours, Shad pursues a master's degree in Liberal Studies at Vancouver's Simon Fraser University, and on his latest record he tackles heady subjects like gender equality in rap, traces the linguistic origins of his name back to a slave in Babylon, and subtly name drops stuffy Canadian literature [...]

Shad released the hard hitting video for "Yaa I Get It" back in April from his upcoming LP, TSOL . The song had some serious head-nod inducing bassline, which you can check out below. Now, Oddisee has remixed the track giving a more toned down and relaxed vibe that allows you to more clearly understand Shad's witty wordplay. TSOL drops October 5th via Black Box/Decon. This Saturday, a very special act will be coming to The Opera House. Shad, a cat we wrote about here some time ago now, will be stopping by Toronto on his cross Canada tour. We have two pairs of tickets to give away, and all you have to do is leave a comment on the bottom of this post! No tags for this post.

I am a fan of the music made by one Shadrach Kabango, otherwise known as Shad K. or just Shad. I'm certainly not alone in this, as pretty much anyone who's heard the awesome The Old Prince or seen his Fresh Prince-esque vid for the title track of that album likely feels the same. However, after a few times through his new album TSOL , I can pinpoint one of the things I like most about him: he absolutely excels at the perfect simplicity of hip hop. Intelligent & thoughtful lyrics, punch [...]

Typically, Canada's best kept musical secret falls in the realm of indie rock, post rock, or some other rock subgenre. For this post's sake, though, the secret is Shad, a rapper who has gained a strong following in the underground thanks to two very solid albums so far. His latest opus, which is due out this year, is dubbed TSOL and features the above single, "Yaa I Get It." Backed by a raucous beat from EOM, it appears at first that Shad's confident, laid-back flow might be out of place. As soon as he starts spitting, though, that [...]
I've featured this kid before. I dig this new joint from his his upcoming album, TSOL . [Tagged as T.dot thing even though he's from satellite city, London, ON] [via Nah Right ]
I do not know if I am late or just have been hiding but I have been searching the KanyeLive forums a lot more and it has been giving me a lot of really good music. I just came across this guy and I am loving his style and music. Score! Shad- Yaa I Get It | UserShare
