Welcome to the second edition of the PedigreeMusic newsletter (the previous name was rubbish so I've gone for this one). I'm surrently at work and bored out of my skull, so what better to do than to entertain you music fans with the latest new music videos, news and opinions that I have to offer... I'll start by looking at what I've been listening to on the PedigreeMusic jukebox this week.
The document above is Jack and Meg White's divorce certificate circa 1996. Whether the annulment or the duo's claim to be siblings is genuine, it is to me a perfect metaphor for The White Stripe's musical career. A career that is essentially cloaked in façade and novelty that serves to mask the lack of any real substance. A dystopian in pop-culture clothing, Jack White is a canny and subtle mimic. As opinionated as I am, and as much as I love to put my thoughts and words out there for people to read, I also believe that if music is good enough, it should speak for itself. So I'm going to make this brief. Icky Thump is so far, and I can only imagine will remain on December 31st, the best album of 2007. And with it, in my not-so-humble opinion, the White Stripes further solidify their standing as the best band in the world. MP3 White Stripes [...]

Misschien een logische keuze als CD van de Week maar wederom kunnen we niet om dit duo heen. Wie had gedacht dat we alles al hadden gehoord van deze band, zit er weeral naast. Wie dacht dat een tweemansformatie met hun beperkte middelen zijn sound niet kan vernieuwen, heeft het ook deze keer dus volldedig mis. Uiteraard horen we op 'Icky Thump' de vertrouwde rauwe blues-sound maar deze keer krijgen we er doedelzak, mariachi-trompetten en een geslaagde cover gewoon bovenop. Jack & Meg zijn nog lang niet uitgezongen, zoveel is duidelijk.

Ah, it's good to be back. Our two weeks off were completely void of work or progression in any way, shape, or form. A lot has happened though while we were away.The White Stripes' new album, Icky Thump , was leaked, for one. I've given the album a listen, and it's fucking good.
