Concept albums have always been a curiosity in the pop music world, even in their 70s heyday there was something quite unnecessary and indulgent about them. In a post-LP, download-friendly, iTunes dominated landscape it seems even more so. Not that such concerns would bother musical demi-god David Byrne, and why should it? The former Talking Heads frontman and all around good egg is releasing a concept album this Spring whose narrative centres around that ever popular staple of pop songwriting, former Philippine first-lady Imelda Marcos, who, if I scanned her Wikipedia page right, seems to be a [...]

We mentioned David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's concept album about the life of the first Lady of the Phillipines, Imelda Marcos, a couple of weeks ago. Byrne gave away "Please Don't" featuring vocals by Santigold for free . You can now listen to the album's ABBA-esque title track, featuring Florence + the Machine's Florence Welsh. Here Lies Love is out [...]

"Here Lies Love" is the scene-setting title track from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's post-BPA Imelda Marcos concept album . As we've mentioned, each track on the 2-CD collection features a different guest vocalist -- basically a number of accomplished female vocalists and Steve Earle. (That, and Byrne plays the "American Troglodyte," duets with My Brightest Diamond, etc.) Our last taste of Here Lies Love came via Santigold putting her distinctive stamp on " Please Don't ." This time Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine gives it a buoyant go with the dramatic, upbeat opener. [...]
