Hanging chandeliers, lights that make you feel like you could have a visually-induced seizure at any moment and Afro-Caribbean beats that are impossible not to dance to? Yup, TWJ was at a Vampire Weekend show in Lifestyle Communities Pavilion last night in Columbus, OH. VW's lead singer Ezra Koenig and bandmates were in fine form for this show. Contra 's songs offer sharp, bracing takes on modern life and the album could strengthen their core audience, while netting them some new fans at the same time. I've really been enjoying Contra, the new Vampire Weekend album. Sure, its not as catchy and immediate as their self-titled debut but there are plenty of great tracks and I can see myself coming back to Contra for a while. Here is their video for Cousins. Fun video too.

Initial impressions of Vampire Weekend's sound would hardly place them in New York City, where the band originally formed. Lead singer Ezra Koenig and drummer Chris Tomson first joined forces on the comedy rap band L'Homme Run , before creating Vampire Weekend with Chris Baio and Rostam Batmanglij.
