If you've been following my posts at all, then you may I've noticed that I've mentioned Young Love a fewtimes but haven't really gone into any detail on him. Well now I am... bitches. Young Love - Too Young to Fight it Lets talk about man behind Young Love for a second: Dan Keyes (of former Recover fame). Both Rodeo & Picasso and Ceci N'est Pas Recover had heavy CD rotation way way [...]
Bad name, good sounds: Dan Keyes, former leader of emo-rockers Recover, could have picked a better name for his new project, but the music of Young Love is definitely a step forward. Trading in loud guitars for throbbing beats and dance-pop moves, Young Love gained the attention of Island/Def Jam President Jay-Z thanks to '80s-influenced songs like " Discotech " - a guitar-laden ode that's so joyful and unpretentious that it had to be written by an out-of-towner. If Recover was the expression of Keyes' personal angst and self-reflection growing up in Texas, Young [...]
We previously reported on the absolute badicalness of the Stones Throw Records compilations, Chrome Children Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 . Well now you can download all of Vol. 2 for FREE over at the Stones Throw website . Just to give you a little more incentive, I am gonna throw out the track listing one more time. Drum roll please... [...]
What happened to We'll All Float On? The new Modest Mouse record is coming out soon and I am as giddy as a 10 year old at a Gwen Stefani concert. Their fifth full-length album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank , is set to release March 20th through Epic Records. Apparently, if you pre-order the new album on iTunes now, you get an advanced download of their first single "Dashboard" which has been on infinite repeat in my apartment since 1:00 pm. They are streaming the song on [...]
This is officially the 100th post for Badical Beats. 100 posts in 30 days.... not bad. Here is a sweet little video I found of The Blow playing the FADER stage at CMJ last November. The sound and lighting are not spectacular, and the room looks like something out of a press release from Al Qaede, but the performance is fun and... what's the word.... organic. So, in celebration of our 100th post, enjoy the live video for "True Affection" from The Blow's latest record, Paper Television .
You can get just about anything you want with a name like Architecture in Helsinki . Respect. Fame. Money. Hot girls with big bootys (like the ones in the Chingy videos). With all that, inking a nice record deal should be easy as pie. The electronic band (from the Sphinx, Egypt) just got off the road with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah , and plan on gracing one of the many stages at the SXSW music conference in March. [...]
It's a sad day in the drizzly, cloud-covered city of Seattle. After five years, three records, and one too many tours in a van, indie-rockers Pretty Girls Make Graves are finished. I only started getting into these guys recently, and it seems as though I might have brought them a stroke of bad luck. Anywho, here is what they had to say about the breakup: "We are sorry to announce that our upcoming tour in May well be our last. Nick quit the band and the rest of us [...]
All I got to say is . . . HOT. Go buy the new Young Love record. It's out TODAY!
Spreading the Badical News... Badical Beats on Technorati
All my friends at Capitol Records got laid off today. They were caught in the crossfire of EMI Music's merger between Capital Records and Virgin Records . I hear they're moving the headquarters to New York, which means the fate of the famous Capitol Records building in Hollywood is up in the air. Other kills included CEO Andy Slater (resigned), Alain Levy (chairman and CEO of EMI) and David Munns (vice chairman of EMI). The next question for the new company (now called Capitol Music Group ) [...]
At first, I thought to myself, Beck must have taken some serious, hardcore hallucinogens when brainstorming up the idea behind his music video for "Cellphone's Dead". Then I realized Michel Gondry directed it. Ahhh... now it all makes sense.
This one is gonna be an epic... The Third Hand hits streets March 6th, 2007, and we're going completely ape shit just listening to the tracks from the new LP on RJD2 's Myspace page. We are literally flinging pooh at each other just waiting for our promo copy to come in the mail. For those of you who don't know RJD2, he is one of the finest DJs turned hip-hop producers around. He originally made his mark with hip-hopper El-P's label Definitive Jux, but has moved on to bigger and better things, [...]
The Western States Motel makes traveler's music. The kind of music you listen to when you are driving across the scenic, open highways, day dreaming away under sunny blue skies. Their self-titled debut is the perfect soundtrack to your next road trip. The songs are composed of slow-motion beats, soft harmonies, mellow acoustic guitars, and an array of folk-oriented background instruments to fill up the space inbetween. If you like Beck , the Shins , or any of the songs on Garden State soundtrack, this one will be a nice addition to your [...]
According to the Save Darfur Coalition , " Darfur has been embroiled in a deadly conflict for over three years. At least 400,000 people have been killed ; more than 2 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes and now live in displaced-persons camps in Sudan or in refugee camps in neighboring Chad ; and more than 3.5 million men, women, and children are completely reliant on international aid for survival. Not since the Rwandan genocide of 1994 has the world seen such a calculated campaign of [...]
Anberlin has added yet another track from Cities on their Myspace page . "Dismantle.Repair." is the track, and it seems as if people are giving it some serious praise. For an album that doesn't come out until Feb. 20th, they've done a great job of not letting anything leak out, other than what they've selected. The third album is always the backbreaker for any band, and if the 2 tracks they've released are any indication of what the full album will be like, then I'd say it's safe to say that they'll [...]
For those of you who have wondered what the new Kaiser Chiefs single would sound like, your wait is over. I'm still not sure whether or not I'm diggin' the new single, but the video is definitely worth a look. Apparently the world revolves around the Kaiser Chiefs, but Ruby is still all that is in their minds. Are you liking the new stuff, or do you want to hear some of the old? These UK'ers are playing a gang of dates, and hopefully [...]
The folks at The FADER Magazine are celebrating in their offices, and not because it's Beer-Friday. They have just come up with an idea to help set themselves apart from the several dozen other "competitors" in the music magazine world. They're giving their magazine away for FREE. Si... para libre. The FADER Magazine is giving all you music heads a free download of the entire magazine each month. They're also throwing in a DJ-mixed iTunes Podcast [...]
The Shins hit the mega-bucks with the Garden State phenomenon. Natalie Portman plugged the band in one of her lines and two of the band's songs, "New Slang" and "Caring is Creepy" from 2001's Oh, Inverted World, became the soundtrack to every college party across the country. Though the band didn't really make any mainstream noise with Chutes Too Narrow , their second effort from Sub Pop , everyone and their mothers are rooting for The Shins to make things happen with their new record, Wincing the Night Away . [...]
In between the emo bands, bling bling rappers and Nickleback knock off's, you can generally find a diamond in the rough when searching through the weekly Myspace featured artists. This week, that gem is Fujiya & Miyagi out of the UK (where Mikey and I have concluded that 83% of all cool music comes from). These guys are far from new to the scene, and as mentioned on their Myspace page , "Fujiya & Miyagi were formed by Steve Lewis and David Best and released their first album ' electro [...]
After playing the shit out of 'Discotech' in 2006 to the point that I never need to hear the song again, I think I'm ready to hear more from NYC's YOUNG LOVE when their debut album 'Too Young To Fight It' hits stores this Tuesday. The only other song I had heard before was the mediocre cover of THE GOSSIP's 'Standing in the Way of Control'. Not that it was terrible...it's a fantastic song that even FERGIE could probably make listenable, but no one could give it the urgency and passion that Beth Ditto does. [...]
