Well, today was Black Friday in the US, where an orgy of discount-induced, post-Thanksgiving spending was supposed to have propped up the shuddery American economy by propelling retailers into the black, i.e. into profit. It was also Buy Nothing Day , on which those not wedded to the cult of Mammon were supposed to abstain from purchasing. So where did I come out?
