Grouper has cut few singles and splits since her 2008 masterpiece Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill (one of this author's top ten releases of the 2000s), but anticipation is high for her double album release A I A. Now Grouper's Liz Harris has released a video for "Alien Observation" directed by Hamish Parkinson filled with plenty of heavy water and a romance that seems to be driven towards the grave. The song is...
One of Rocks Off's choice ambient/shoegaze artists, Grouper, has just released visuals for her song "Alien Observer" and it's full of (almost) everything that we hold dear: Blood, zombies buried b... Continue reading "Beyond "Thriller": Top 10 Zombie Music Videos" >
Portlander Liz Harris (that's Grouper to you) has just released a pair of short LPs entitled Dream Loss and Alien Observer , or when you get them together, they change (like Voltron) into an album called A I A . I think I got that right. [Actually, I wouldn't know. We never received the albums for review. But we did receive Glee: The Music, Volume 5 , why aren't we blogging about that?] Anyway, Alien Observer 's title track now has its very own video. Directed by Hamish Parkinson, this [...]
Happy Tuesday morning everyone! How about starting off your day with this beautiful song by Liz Harris, aka Grouper: Grouper recently released A | A —a two-part ( Dream Loss and Alien Observer ) release comprised of songs written and recorded over the last four years. Vinyl copies of the two releases are going FAST, but there are still some left over at Forced Exposure ... good luck!
Liz Harris has just released a couple of records under her Grouper alias in the form of Dream Loss and Alien Observer . The title track of the latter was used to herald these joint releases, and now it's been given this suitably evocative video from director Hamish Parkinson. Much of this clip is made up of close-up shots of women's faces, including some who bleed from the mouth after kissing. It work well with the funeral-paced song, which really shows off Harris' impressive vocals and her artful way with electronic arrangements.
Grouper - Alien Observer Directed by Hamish Parkinson . A I A is out now digitally and expect the LP to be out this summer. Via Gorilla Vs Bear

Did you know it's our Birthday today? Wait, you didn't? So we shouldn't be looking out for your card in the post? Well...this is embarrassing, we wen't and created a monster of a 'Daily Dose' for you and you didn't even get us a Birthday card. Mmmmm. We'll let it go this time. We're good like that. Let's kick things off with Grouper . Grouper have dropped the video for 'Alien [...]
We've previously mentioned " Alien Observer ," the title track to one of two LPs that Liz Harris, aka Grouper, self-released this month (together the albums are called A I A ). Both the song and the cover art looked toward the stars, but the song's new video is very much grounded ... in the ground. Two women kiss in a pool of water, then they writhe and wiggle out of dirt and leaves while Technicolor blood dribbles out of their mouths. The video was directed by Hamish Parkinson. The song may be titled "Alien Observer," but Hamish Parkinson's video for Grouper's ethereal ballad is more intra than extra terrestrial. Zombie-like creatures come out from under the leafy mulch for dirty (literally) make-out sessions ... read more
