Portland, Ore.-based collective Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside has cleverly combined country, rockabilly, blues and soul and spun them with flair, fashioning a batch of songs that won't be going out of style anytime soon. Although Ford — backed by Tyler Tornfelt, Ford Tennis and Jeff Munger — might look petite, her thunderous voice proves otherwise. As Ford sings "When I turn on the radio / It all sounds the same / What have these people done to music / They just don't care anymore" in their tune "I Swear" off of their debut album, "Dirty Radio," [...]
A weekly feature in which our writers share their favourite tracks of the week. Maria Minerva - 'Hop Hop Gone In Spring' (chosen by Daniel Harrison) LA's Not Not Fun label have been responsible for some fantastic music recently (Peaking Lights, Sun Araw, LA Vampires/Matrix Metals), and bedroom musician Maria Minerva continues the trend. Tallinn at Dawn is the excellent follow-up to her Noble Savage 123, and one of the standout tracks is 'Hop Hop Gone in Spring', a blissful mix of shimmering synths and layered, sensual vocals. [...]

Portland, Oregon’s Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside have released a new video for the jukebox-jivin’ first single I Swear off their first full-length LP Dirty Work which just dropped May 24 th . A look back through the decades, this video perfectly captures the decidedly cyclical nature of all things music, hip kids and fashion. What comes around goes around, and Sallie Ford and her vintage throwback sound and look, in the end, effortlessly morph with a modern-day Portland house party , where all things old are new [...]

Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside - I Swear from Matthew Ross on Vimeo . We love Portland's SALLIE FORD & THE SOUND OUTSIDE , ever since she graced our Rumble Portland stage in October of 2009 (can you believe it also had Fitz & The Tantrums on that bill?), and we're excited that we just got our hands on her new release, " Dirty Radio ". Here's the first video from that effort for " I Swear" .

Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside - I Swear from Matthew Ross The Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside are a local Portland band who have been gaining a lot of steam since they were the top rated local artist in last year's Best New Band competition. Check out their new video, using a handful of familiar faces from Portland's music scene (and show-going scene) as extras (including Typhoon's Kyle Morton as the opening scene talkshow host). "I Swear" is the first single off their debut album Dirty Radio which was released [...]
Pop quiz: in the new video for Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside's "I Swear," which begins with a couple girls clad in '50s-era skirts who sit down to watch the band perform on black-and-white TV and then time-travels through the decades, landing in the current one at a Portland house show, before finally zooming out to an iPhone on Hawthorne St., can you tell if you are really time travelling or just visiting Portland? That's a serious question? It's funny how the current version of fashion in Portland doesn't seem all that different from the stereotypical fashion staples [...]
Sallie Ford's voice recalls a simpler time, when our lives weren't interrupted by iPhone chimes and 200 e-mails an hour.
Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside - I Swear from Matthew Ross on Vimeo. Considering "of another era" is probably the most common phrase used to describe Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside's style, their decade-spanning video for "I Swear" suits them to a tee. Sallie's highly-anticipated debut album Dirty Radio was released yesterday and she'll [...]
[mp3] Sallie Ford: "I Swear" Stark favorite Partisan Records has been on a roll lately, from Paleo to Middle Brother/Deer Tick, to Sallie Ford and a hopefully soon-to-be-coming new record from Chris Denny, Partisan has honed their sound and their label brand. Sallie Ford's debut LP, 'Dirty Radio' dropped Monday. It's a quirky, but not kitschy affair, that is buoyed by Ford's unique vocal performances and compelling melodies. The above video for "I Swear" is equal in quirk and throwback charm to the excellent song. We always feel like "fun" is [...]

Photographs by Conlan Murphy The shoot was all lined up for their first location, but then a week beforehand, the older couple who owned the home started having second thoughts about a cast and crew of seven making a music video in their living room. The location was irreplaceable—almost all of the decor completely unchanged since its installation in the 1960s—but the couple, director Matthew Thomas Ross ' grandparents, needed reassurances, despite their good relationship. So Ross brought in a intermediary between the two generations, his dad, and everything went [...]
Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside have a lot of words like 'retro' and 'throwback' attached to their sound, but I think 'timeless' is a better one. The new video for "I Swear," the first single off Dirty Radio , really makes my case for me (thanks!) by showcasing the group as they could have looked over the last five decades. As the clothes, hair, and Ford's glasses change over the eras, the video perfectly matches the group's enduring and infectious energy. With Ford's distinctly sonorous vocals blazing over a classic guitar riff, "I Swear" also [...]
