Portland, Ore.-based collective Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside has cleverly combined country, rockabilly, blues and soul and spun them with flair, fashioning a batch of songs that won't be going out of style anytime soon. Although Ford — backed by Tyler Tornfelt, Ford Tennis and Jeff Munger — might look petite, her thunderous voice proves otherwise. Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside have a lot of words like 'retro' and 'throwback' attached to their sound, but I think 'timeless' is a better one. The new video for "I Swear," the first single off Dirty Radio , really makes my case for me (thanks!) by showcasing the group as they could have looked over the last five decades. As the clothes, hair, and Ford's glasses change over the eras, the video perfectly matches the group's enduring and infectious energy.
