Tuesday, July 20, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: My friends and heroes La Snacks are playing at the Mohawk tonight, and you should consider going so that you can check out some of their new material and champion their existence. The Action Design and Zlam Dunk are opening. Show starts at 10pm. I'm definitely excited for the new Menomena album, but the new track that's floating around on the web has pretty much put me in a frenzy to figure out a [...]

Photography by DonaRita ... What a week. Busy busy. Work's been nuts, weather/riding been nuts, photography (site NSFW) , posts, mixtapes, etc, etc! Oh my! Last night's Werewolf shoot was a success! YAY! But alas, you are not here to here me worry about being busy, are you? Nah... you are here for the music and it's Mines by Menomena that is filling my ears and getting me to that glorious glorious event we call "the weekend"! [...]
The well-know record label City Slang is celebrating its 20th anniversary accross Europe. This Saturday, City Slang is gonna take over La Flèche d'Or in Paris with two of his artists! Please welcome the crazy pop rock of Menomena and the Swedish folk of Junip (José Gonzalez's band)! We have 5 tickets for the party, are you in?
You have an impossible number of local bands to see at Bumbershoot this year. Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't be able catch half of them, so here are three recommendations from Travis to help you make some tough choices! Good luck! Menomena These Portland, OR, math rockers were in the KEXP studio on June 1st and if you happened to be listening at the time you know just how good it was. Menomena is a band that is hard to categorize, sometimes it sounds more like [...]

If I'm home, New York Noise is my Sunday night television experience of choice. And so, just about every Monday I'm tempted to just sum up what happened the night before. Seriously, this is quality music programing coming atcha on cable access. But I generally refrain, because if you know about the show, you're probably already watching. I do wanna share this video with you, however, 'cause up until now, I had largely ignored the Matt & Kim love parade. "Yay, just what we need," I thought. "Another twee indie couple peddling lo-fi [...]
"Wet and Rusting" is one of those tracks that's been out for a while, but that you don't really start to appreciate until later, for whatever reason. Leaving it on the back burner any longer, however, would be a serious crime. Between the vocal distortions, delicate piano, acoustic guitar, and occasional xylophone hit, there's lots to keep track of in this song. It's well worth it though; they payoff is really quite epic. You can find this track on both the Wet and Rusting EP and their latest LP Friend and Foe (really cool cover [...]
There are kids starving in Africa you know.... For another kind of fight, check out the new Against Me! video . And check out Menomena for free at South Street Seaport in NYC on July 13th. The Seaport show is part of Citysol - a festival that includes a free show the next day by Les Savy Fav , Land of Talk , [...]
One of the best bands around is The Thermals. I like them. I REALLY like them! In a nice move by the Thermals , the band will be performing a benefit concert at Cleveland High School in Portland, Oregon. The cause? To benefit music education in the Portland Public High Schools. Also appearing with The [...]
