No one likes those a-holes who claim they were into bands waaaay before they became popular, so excuse us for sounding like one for this post. Way back in 2008, we fell hard for School of Seven Bells and their Ghostly International debut Alpinisms . So hard , in fact, we invited the band into the studio between their CMJ gigs to record some stripped-down versions of our favorite songs. Fast forward a few years and the band has signed to venerable indie label Vagrant, are appearing on Jimmy Fallon, and have stopped returning our calls. We [...]
Thanks to the fine work of The Yellow Stereo , I've been listening to School of Seven Bells' new album Disconnect from Desire all morning. The band recently signed with Vagrant Records and will be re-releasing their 2008 debut, Alpinisms this upcoming Tuesday. [...]

Named after a mythological Andean pickpocket academy , the Brooklyn trio create out-there songs, led beautifully by the Deheza sisters blood-harmony, crossing ethereal folk with prog-pop and electronics. Their sound is hard to pin down and crosses many periods of time, resulting in something akin to medieval folk ballads remixed by Kevin Shields (I said it was hard to pin down). 'Alpinisms' grows in briliance [...]
