Some wise writer at The FADER wrote earlier this month that trying to sum up a year in music is something like "trying to talk about all the times you tied your shoelaces". That metaphor feels pretty on point, especially since I started whittling my list down from a solid 200 songs, and 100 albums or so, all of which I thought were fantastic. The resulting list you'll find below feels more than a little arbitrary, if not altogether a lost cause. But hey, the whole idea is appreciation-showing love, giving thanks, and hopefully handing off at least a few [...]

In 1979 The Buggles accompanied their hit single Video Killed The Radio Star with a video clip. They were the first to do it, kickstarting an era of Music Television in which video’s became indispensable to successful songs. In this time still, media like Youtube demand visual accompaniment and artists keep finding different ways to do so. The importance of such a video becomes bigger and bigger, as the viewers count on Youtube becomes a grade of popularity. This year, Bieber’s baby initially took Lady Gaga’s viewers crown, only to be crushed by 2012’s sensation Gangnam [...]
As we hit the last few days of 2012 so starts the annual round up of blog content. Today we re-visit the finest videos of 2012. This isn't a comment on the music, but the vehicle in which they're delivered. Ever since it's humbled 80s birth, which saw Buggles ' debut single, Video Killed The Radio Star, upon the new channel they called MTV, we've all enjoyed an ever-increasing collection of music videos year on year. The list is in no particular order, but every entry is noted for being outstanding. They have to be to shine [...]
Favorite Music Videos of 2012 (Alex) There was no way I was going to be able to watch all the music videos released this year. I liked so many different videos for so many different reasons it seemed silly to try and rank them. That's why I have presented my first year-end list (several more to come) alphabetically. The reasons I liked music videos this year was for a wide variety of reasons, ranging from the ones that might not have made the list [...]
Time for round two in our little audiovisual recap of the music video year 2012. In our first part we already presented you a fine selection of clips you should have seen before this year ends. Songs about love, friendship, weird family structures, abstract images and a lot of sex and crime. Or at least

As an international man of mystery myself, there is nothing i love more than a little slight of hand or deception. That being said, there is this unknown artist that goes by the handle Sr. Sly. Pretty sly if you ask me. If that's not mysterious enough, the song's title is Ghost . Hmm... I like it. So if the buzz of an unknown artist hasn't gotten you locked in, let me just say it's sure to get your earz wet. There has been much speculation to who this undercover artist is. [...]
The 2012 VMA nominees are out, and while there are certainly plenty of big names and obvious choices, there are a few surprises buried in there. Frank Ocean gets a nod, as do A$AP Rocky, Jack Whi... Continue reading "VMA Awards 2012: Handicapping the Video of the Year Nominees" >
Fun Song That Everyone Knows is a prestigious title to hold, and with the right combination of tunesmithery, marketing, and a well-timed release date, a pop artist can land his/her/their song in the extremely fortunate position of holding that title in the summer, which is of course the time of year when being the Fun Song That Everyone Knows is a surefire route to crossover success and year-end countdowns in the short-term, and nostalgic playlists in the long-term. Inevitably, of all the anthems churned out by urban warehouse scenesters, white-bread indie rockers, and Top 40 svengalis, only a [...]
De M.I.A. hace [...]

Just in case you need something a little heavier in your musical diet today check out this latest Monolith dub-step remix for M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls" . Pretty sweet and free for the taking. Should work great on a dance floor near you. As a bonus here's also M.I.A's video for "Bad Girls" just in case you haven't seen it. Although probably not many of you. The video has almost 12 million hits ! Pretty unbelievable how big she's gotten. [...]
MIA: Bad Girls Fresh from her controversial appearance alongside Madonna at the Super Bowl, the ever polarising singer MIA has returned to our radars. Her fourth album will hit shelves sometime later this year and in anticipation we’ve got the lead single Bad Girls and its accompanying visuals. The video is excellent but I’ve always had mixed feelings when it comes to MIA as a person. On the one hand she’s this creative thinker conjuring up her own unique blend of musical chaos, but then there are all these confrontational and contradictory messages regarding [...]
TT: Bad Girls I figured that we should get a little romantic on Valentine’s day, but instead of posting some teary Adele or Frank Ocean it’s techno tuesday. One’s flipping off the entire nation, one’s passed away (rip), and one I’m convinced is related to Rozay based off of circumference alone. Pretty bad group if you ask me. Also this video is wild. M.I.A. - Bad Girls (Barbaric Merits Remix) Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (Van Hooft & Forever Kid Remix) [...]
Every 30 days we bring you our five favorite music videos of the month gone by; if you missed any of last year's entries, click here . The music video is off to great start in 2012, and there were many fantastic entries that could not find room on the list. If you take a look at some of them, head over to our tumblr where we have posted several (and where we frequently post new music and videos). In the meantime, enjoy the months' best, featuring shadow puppets, action figures, dangerous car stunts, and gay porn stars. [...]
"Live fast, die young, bad girls do it well" and M.I.A. doing stunts on the streets of Morocco or filing her nails while the car is driving up on two wheels is what her new video was directed by Romain Gavras is all about. Badass as hell! Check out these 2 interesting remixes by Stereo Heroes and by Barbaric Merits, that [...]
Tweet vaso link Always a lightning rod, not always a great musician, this song at least gives glimmers of hope for upcoming material. Hopefully she'll let the music do the talking for her.
This video is so awesome! I like M.I.A., but I can't imagine her making a song better than Paper Planes...she does have SWWAAAG though. -LaJack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =2uYs0gJD-LE
