Dark-wave has never sounded so good. Evy Jane's aesthetic is like a feminine version of The Weeknd's, but way more subtle and way less whiny. The atmosphere is one of dazed numbness, the beat is a low, warbling stumble. Evy Jane's honeyed voice quavers and trills, "Didn't I tell you / didn't I tell you / didn't I tell you / not to be so kind?" Honestly, the main reason that I checked out this song by Canadian duo Evy Jane was because of Pitchfork's excellent writeup on this track right now. The closest comparison I can think of is How To Dress Well, but "Sayso" is definitely doing its own thing and is worth checking out. The track is from a 123 that is out right now. Evy Jane could well be huge. Their single ‘Sayso’, out this week on King Deluxe, is a beautiful piece of understated pop, arctic vocals coalescing with hollow, ‘CMYK’-esque percussion. But the b-side is just as interesting. Beginning like a halftime ‘Natalia’s Song’, Max Ulis ’ remix of ‘Ohso’ is positively seeping with malice.
