Sigur Rós - Ekki múkk from Sigur Rós on Vimeo . Everyone's favourite Icelandic folk band have dropped 'Ekki Múkk', the first cut from their forthcoming record, 'Valtari'. Featuring shimmering synths and Jónsi's haunting falsetto, 'Ekki Múkk' is almost an epic eight minutes, but never feels a second too long. Perfectly-crafted and deeply emotive, Sigur Rós once again make themselves an essential band for music-lovers everywhere. 'Valtari' is released on May 28.

To everyone's excitement yesterday, including mine, Sigur Ros dropped a release date for a new album along with a track from said album. The LP's title is Valtari , and it's looking at a May release. The teaser track, "Ekki Múkk," is contained in the video above, and it's a bit of a stunner. I'm not sure if we're still using the phrase "post-rock" to describe this band, but if we are, the crescendos they pump out are still some of the best in the genre. After a solo stint as Jónsi with the release of  Go in 2010, Sigur Rós is returning with their first group album since 2008. The eight track released entitled  Valtari is set to release on May 28th, and the first video "Ekki Múkk" was just posted on the band's website. It's what we have come to expect from them at this point, but not in a bad way at all. The album will have no english lyrics, but it seems like the Valtari with have the same grandiose orchestration and emotional impact as previous releases.

There's a new record label around that is the brainchild of people involved in Sony Music and Raw Power Management, and the fact alone that the Iggy and the Stooges-referencing   Search and Destroy  has added hotly-tipped Bedford alt-rock quartet Don Broco [ Twitter / Facebook ] (who have long been favourites of mine) to its roster is cause for celebration, mainly because the forthcoming album now has a home, not to mention a release date of August 13th. Io davvero non riesco a ricordare perché abbiamo iniziato a registrare questo disco, non so più che cosa stavamo cercando di fare allora. So che, session dopo session andava sempre peggio, abbiamo perso la concentrazione e ci abbiamo quasi rinunciato... Per un po' ci siamo arresi. Sigur Ros will release their sixth record 'Valtari' on May 25 featuring the album cut ‘Ekki Múkk’. The first single is still on its way, consider this a tease! Since the release of 'Inni' last year, fans have been expecting the news. But its even sweeter given that the Icelandic post-rock vets have returned to their abstract roots. Since the release of 'Takk' in 2005, Sigur Ros have steadily distanced themselves from their apocalyptic beginnings . 'Valtari' (or 'Steamroller') is tipped to be a return to their early noughties best.
