We'll continue our countdown today with songs #10 - #6. #10: Big K.R.I.T. - Country Shit (Remix ft. Ludacris and Bun B) Return of 4Eva , while Big K.R.I.T. 's true breakout album, isn't totally single-minded. For Justin Scott, the 25-year-old breakout Mississippi rapper, every southern rap anthem is met with self-conscious ones. But forgive me for not ignoring "Country Shit (Remix ft. Ludacris and Bun B)," a heavy souvenir of modern southern rap; dirty, party-minded, and as unapologetic as it is enjoyable. Rap music needs real [...]
Here's the third (and final, you'll be pleased to hear) round up of the year's music. Or at least the year's music that I could give a toss about. Parts One and Two here and here . The Albums You Wish The Artist Would Re-Record As A Solo Acoustic Album Ron Sexsmith – Long Player Late Bloomer When I saw Ron Sexsmith perform “Get In Line” on Later…. I was smitten. Not with his looks, of course (he’s hardly Feist, [...]
Yesterday we posted numbers 50-21 in our Favourite Songs of the year countdown, and we're edging ever closer to the Top 10. Today sees us revealing the bottom half of our top 20, which can be enjoyed below, in tantalising reverse order of course. 20. Nicola Roberts - Lucky Day 19. Rihanna feat Calvin Harris - We Found Love 18. Little Dragon - Ritual Union 17. Adele - [...]
"Dame un helado derritiéndose Simple yes my friend!" Video Credits:

Happy Halloween to you and you and you. I'm sitting here dressed as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon hoping that the snow storm we had on Saturday night (seriously?) wasn't the beginning of winter for us here in New York City. It's currently supposed to be chilly but nice, which is, in my opinion, the best weather for venturing out and seeing some live music. From Feist and Battles , to The Drums and Pixies , we have some extraordinary artists visiting our city this week. See below for our suggested shows of [...]

Rocktober is well underway here in the District, and it’s time for our second installment for our October preview. Thanks to the kind folks at the 9:30 Club we will be hooking up TVD fans with a pair of tickets to each of the following shows: The Wombats (early show), Fri 10/21 It is not often an indie band from across the pond goes platinum their first time around; The Wombats , however, did just that with their 2007 debut LP, [...]
5. Warpaint Described as “If Bjork fronted a70s psychedelic rock band”, Warpaint’s debut LP, The Fool turned the world of expansive atmospheric rock on its head. The album’s hallucinatory vocals and kaleidoscopic arrangements of guitars helped The Fool get a re-release Deluxe Edition due September 26th. The deluxe edition will contain the critically acclaimed debut album The Fool plus Exquisite Corpse EP & two bonus tracks: Shadows (The Neon Lights Remix) and Billie Holiday (Steve Mackey Radio Edit) . But once you see Warpaint live, they will knock you [...]

Battles have once again proven how cool it is to be weird. Their new album, Gloss Drop , is the perfect cure for a bout of conventional. Fantastic collaborations dot the album (Matias Aguayo and Gary Numan most notably) which, although more digestible than Mirrored , lacks none of its shrieking pandemonium. It is such an enjoyable listen. Glass Drop gives you the impression that you have stumbled upon a band locked in a secret jam session, where all they are doing is fucking around with noise by throwing bits and pieces of sound against the [...]

I had already read a handful of reviews for Gloss Drop , the follow-up record to Battles 2007 genre-defying debut LP Mirrored, and each one said exactly what I had hoped they wouldn't - basically, that the departure of the bands vocalist, Tyondai Braxton, had affected the band so much that Gloss Drop not only lacked the inventiveness of Mirrored , but that it was a genuine disappointment. After finally listening to the record, it was hard to see exactly what those reviewers were expecting or hoping for. [...]

Playlist is a new (largely self-explanatory) feature, curated by members of Team FG. Simon has the pleasure of cutting the ribbon for our first Playlist - tracking his favourite albums of the year so far. Words: Simon Opie We’re half way through 2011 and with the Fete de la Musique here in Paris marking the equinox, it’s a great day to be out on the streets. If you’ve never tried it, by [...]
Battles is not for the faint of heart. Electro-experimental noise band Battles (is that even a genre?) is at it again with their second full-length album Gloss Drop. Their sound is frantic, fractured, almost combative but constantly evolving into a lively listening experience. A majority of the tracks are instrumental where the keyboards almost appear [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Gino DePinto, AOL When it comes to re-grouping and re-consolidating, Battles have had it tougher than most. The loss of singer-guitarist Tyondai Braxton forced the band to scrap the work they'd begun on the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut, 'Mirrored,' and go back to square one. As displayed by the finished results in the shape of new album, 'Gloss Drop,' Battles have dusted themselves down and reconstructed their [...]

New York sveitin Battles vakti gifurlega athygli tónlistarheimsins með frumburði sínum, Mirrored , árið 2007 en sveitin blandar saman ótrúlega mörgum geirum tónlistar í eina væna súpu sem heillar.
In celebration of the release of Battles' new album Glass Drop next Tuesday (6/7), here's a video from one of the most "accessible" songs on the album, Ice Cream. It's one of my favorite videos of the year so far, mostly because it features, among other things, ice cream, a bath, dancing, aerobics, a pinecone and, of course, the band's members. I'm still reeling from seeing them just under a month ago at Bottom of the Hill (yes, seeing Battles play a bar is just as good as it seems). Check out the album when it [...]

Glass Drop is the second album by three-piece instrumentalists-who-sometimes -sing Battles. You have probably already heard 'Ice Cream'. I didn't think much of it at first but yeah, now I can see and hear its brilliance. It is at the bottom of this post if you are curious. 'Inchworm' is the [Read more]
