Chris Garneau is a heart-wrenchingly delicate voice, an awesome mastery of the piano and very much the male counterpart of soviet songstress supreme Regina Spektor . On Tuesday the 6th October Chris Garneau will be playing at The Luminaire in what should prove to be an excellent (hopefully quite intimate) gig. We mention it because, despite being absolutely awesome, he seems relatively unknown here in [...]
I've been preparing to leave on tour with Ingrid on Tuesday and have been slacking at the posting. I will now make up for it with some delightful music. Chris Garneau will probably be a known name to some of you and a brand new one to others. He's from Brooklyn and as far as I can tell is better known over in Europe than in the states. He has release two records, "Music For Tourists" and more recently "El Radio". He has a really awesome voice and some really beautiful/haunting melodies [...]
Photography by Kayla Dee is Fond Of Tea Howdy & happy Wednesday to you.. "Hump Day", as it be, and though today may be the day to hump your loved ones, it was yesterday that two albums came out that we've discussed before that I hope you consider buying, Sunset Rubdown's Dragonslayer (I gots mine, in vinyl!) and R.E.M's remastered reissue of Reckoning (which I hope to pick up very soon), oh and hey, Murmurs remastered on vinyl came out too (though, I'll be damned if I can find a link [...]
My find of the week. Chris Garneau - Album Music for Touris From what I've read about Chris he's been getting some comparisons to the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Rufus Wainwright and from what I've listened to so far, he too creates down tempo piano tunes full of sadness and woe like Sufjan and Rufus. It's just what the doctor ordered for those gloomy rainy days. (sorry woe me, it's raining in sunny so. Cali. rain = sad)
This begins a new series that I've been wanting to do for a while... One of my (only?) favorite music shows on television is LOGO 's NewNowNext . If you don't watch it, you should. (I'm a huge fan of the NewNowNext blog as well, so make sure to throw it in your RSS readers.) It's a music program that has videos from all genres of music, but distilled for a dare-I-say gay crowd. Then there are interviews with gay artists in between videos. Well executed. [...]
[Here's a Friday afternoon volley to close out a week of not-enough-blog-posts, battles with overflowing Outlook mailboxes and a persistent cold and a seemingly endless parade of goodbye messages from colleagues who are leaving the Times. No need for one of those "current mood" icons -- this song's for you ...] Chris Garneau and directors Daniel Stessen and Dori Oskowitz nailed it with "Relief." That's all I can say. The song and the video transported me back to the period in the late-1970s when I had this character's very job; it [...]
Chris Garneau attempts to emulate Elliot Smith with a debut album of dreary piano pop.
Chris Garneau - Relief (2007) After a life of silent reflection, he turned himself upward in social disobedience and demanded to know, what the hell is this ? Receiving no answer except more time, an uncomfortably unfalsifiable logic loop shuddered him to a halt. Apparently, the corresponding neural circuit was simultaneously working to accept the continuation of its own existence as demonstrating insufficient reason for blind faith but plenty to keep looking. And that's the closest anyone has ever come. [...]
If any of you keep up with us here you know that Chris Garneau is a favorite of mine, and that he's got an awesome CD coming out soon that he's recording with fellow New Jersian, Duncan Sheik ( THAT Duncan Sheik , yes) entitled "Music For Tourists". Yesterday he posted a music video for what I assume will be his first single, "Relief", which I've posted for download here a while ago. The song recording isn't the same as the one I had posted, so it sounds quite a [...]
