The High Commissioners wowed us back in October with their retro blues rock, so we invited them to become guest editors. Here are their picks for the best music of 2012. Will's choice: Father John Misty – Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings would certainly take my slot for song of the year 2012. Spreading via word of mouth earlier in the year by most as the 'solo project of the Fleet Foxes drummer,' J. Tillman, here under thepseudonym 'Father John Misty,' produces a colourful mix of Californian Rock, 60s psychedelia, Folk and elements of Americana, with a wild [...]

Solid track. MZ Youth Lagoon - Daydream Great buildup to one of the grooviest pieces of music I've ever heard. Must pop this one on when you're next driving. RG Totally Enormous [...]
Filed under: The Hit List , Spinner Says Redferns (2) | FilmMagic Rather than bore you with our oh-so-deep thoughts on our favorite records from the first half of 2012, we decided to do something different. Chances are, you're already listening to these albums, so we offered up a handy guide on how to best enjoy this great music, often with a beverage pairing. We recommend you try all of these, and if you think we missed [...]

How many times have you kicked back to a song and imagined the video for it, only to have the artist announce the song's video clip? At first you'll think that this is amazing news, that you can confirm your vision for the video...only to watch it and say out loud to yourself, "What the FUCK did I just watch?" Yeah, it's never pretty. With that in mind, however, here are the top ten music videos of 2012 so far. They might not be what you're expecting, but that is definitely not [...]

Josh Tillman, who has been recording/releasing solo albums since 2003 and who recently left Seattle’s Fleet Foxes after playing drums from 2008-2011 is planning a release of his own on May 01, 2012. The more ominous & less meadow-frolicking-alpental-mou ntain-skipping style of the former Fleet Foxes has reverberated through the ears of many music fans around the nation. My personal favorite "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" is not only my most played track on iTunes, but also features Parks and Rec's Aubrey Plaza in its official music video. The second song released off Father John's 'Fear Fun' album planned for [...]

I've been sitting on and enjoying this track for about a month which converts to a year in blog time, so guess I'll stop being selfish now. Father John Misty is the solo project of Fleet Foxes' drummer and singer J. Tillman. He actually announced last month that he is leaving Fleet Foxes, but then Tillman went on to drop this great piece of music under the Father John Misty moniker. I will admit my original draw to the video was probably 60% Aubrey Plaza feature and 40% past ties to Fleet Foxes. Aubrey plays the slightly deranged, [...]
very interesting music video. try to wrap your head around it.
Josh Tillman has been writing, recording and releasing albums for a decade now. Like Captain Beefheart and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy before him, it was announced last month that future Tillman output would be released under the guise of Father John Misty. A new beginning? Indeed. If past Tillman releases mined the intricacies of greys and [...]
Singer-Songwriter, Indie Rock, Alt-Country It was announced in January that drummer J. Tillman would be leaving Fleet Foxes to focus on his solo career. Tillman already has three solo records under his name but he is now recording under the moniker of Father John Misty with an album due May 2012. The first video from [...]

There's something about Aubrey Plaza that is so attractive. The fact that she's not your typical supermodel in any sense of the word makes most guys look at her like their own secret little crush, but it's pretty obvious: every guy has a thing for Aubrey Plaza. Even when she's all dark and creepy, like in this clip, we still all want to marry her. Or at least take her out to dinner. Or at least put our... er, nevermind. Watch Aubrey in the new music video for Father John Misty's "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings."

It was no doubt a risky move for J. Tillman, drummer of the famed Fleet Foxes , to strike off on his own as Father John Misty. However, after hearing his initial track "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings", it was a clearly a switch not worth rethinking. As a strong disciple in LA's Laurel Canyon revival scene, Father John Misty's debut track is a refreshingly gritty roots rocker straight down the vein of Neil Young . Roomy drums and twangy guitars set a scene similar to the back of the Harvest LP , [...]
It's not that there's anything inherently wrong with soft rock indie rock. It's just that there's so much of it and so much of it gets such grand praise when it's all really, kinda boring. That's all. That's why soft rock has been my mortal enemy for my listening lifetime. Consequently, one may expect me to pan the new solo music from Fleet Foxes' one time drummer, J Tillman, and his new outfit Father John Misty. And as much as I'd love to slag a Fleet Fox, I can't do it as his first [...]
What would you like to see Aubrey Plaza do? (Keep the dirty responses to yourselves, please.) Eat flowers? Smoke an apple bong? Bleed profusely from the nose? Jump on a bald guy's back and steal his giant glasses? Wear a brightly colored afghan? Smash electronics? Flee to the woods? Experience a very intense, red-tinted hallucination? Well, not to spoil it for you or anything, but you will indeed see all of these things in the video for "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings," by Father John Misty - aka J. Tillman, the former Fleet Foxes drummer who announced his departure [...]

While others were bummed out when J. Tillman announced that he would be leaving the Fleet Foxes, we were quietly excited that the often overlooked and very talented Tillman would be able to release more solo material. We loved him Fleet Foxes, but often felt that his talents were not being utilized to their full extent. Little did we know that we would see new material so soon and that it would be under the name, Father John Misty . Released today was the first song, titled Hollywood Cemetary Sings , [...]
J. Tillman left The Fleet Foxes and shortly thereafter, he convinced Aubrey Plaza to act batshit crazy for his first music video. Job well done J. as I have always found Aubrey to be pretty hot and watching her eat flowers, dance with hipsters and smack J. Tillman around has always been a fantasy of mine. Father John Misty's debut, Fear Fun, will be released on May 1st via Sub Pop. I think they are a new label out of Seattle. Chances are you'll be seeing Mr. Tillman in Austin. Whether you see Ms. Plaza pop out [...]

Josh Tillman departed Fleet Foxes just a few months ago, but he's already working hard on his solo effort, Father John Misty. On May 1st, the first Father John Misty album Fear Fun will release.
