If you've noticed we've been blogging a lot about Pickathon lately, you're right! (There is a prize for you taped to the back of your monitor; go find it.) The surge in Pickathon-related posts is because the weekend-long music fest is right around the corner—if by corner you mean Thursday—as it kicks off Friday afternoon with more great bands than we have fingers to write about. Singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn, the straw that stirs the drink that is Omaha's the Mynabirds , moved quickly from lilting pop  to synth-fueled stomp for her band's sophomore album "Generals," which came out in June on Saddle Creek. It's a political album but not a preachy one — "a protest album and a call to arms," is how it's advertised. And it works on that level and more.
