20. Jack White - "Sixteen Saltines" (Director: AG Rojas ) There's something delightfully chaotic about the suburban Lord of the Flies situation Jack White finds himself in the video for Blunderbuss track "Sixteen Saltines." Too bad he gets burned alive at the end. 19. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - "We Almost Lost Detroit" (Director: Andrew Smart) We're not from Detroit. Nor are we on the verge of losing it. But there's something about the video for [...]

Each month at our sister blog, Seen Your Video , we watch a ton of music videos and share the best ones with you. These are my five favorites for the month of September. Topping the list are eccentric dancing, surrealistic urban storytelling, body-poppers in art galleries, Elle Fanning in the woods and a wandering figure skater. Watch the videos below! 5. AlunaGeorge “Your Drums, Your Love” (dir. Henry Scholfield) 4. Woodkid “Lolita Lempicka” (dir. Yoann Lemoine) [...]

"irgendwas ist kaputt!" - meinte mein dad früher immer zu mir, wenn solche musik im wohnzimmer lief. das war falsch, da war nichts kaputt, aber obwohl es mir immer noch schwer zu beschreiben ist, wusste ich sofort, was er meinte...

St. Vincent is the performance pseudonym for Annie Clark, a very talented American multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and former member of both The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens’ touring band. She recently collaborated with David Byrne, head vocalist of the Talking Heads, on a new album released this week, Love This Giant . The two co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on the disc, with each artist also penning one song individually. Their first single, "WHO", is an effective and effortless blend of naturally programmed percussion, featuring lots of mid-range brass and reed instruments such as the trumpet, saxophone, trombone , French horn, tuba, and euphonium. The result is a compellingly unique, [...]
Danish director Martin de Thurah 's new video begins and ends the same way, with David Byrne getting out of his car to examine a lifeless Annie Clark lying down on a road, and in between the clip features a whole lot of herky-jerky dance moves and erratic time-jumps. De Thurah's black-and-white cinematography is striking as usual and both Byrne and Clark give wonderfully eccentric performances in this gem of a video.
With modern cameras capable of capturing colors we don’t even have names for, the decision to shoot in black-and-white is not a decision to be made lightly. In his video for the David Byrne/St. Vincent collaborative song “Who,” director Martin de Thurah not only uses black-and-white to establish a sense of Twilight Zone -esque otherworldliness but he also utilizes his limited color palette to reemphasize the importance of both artists in the creation of the song. The video begins with a dapper David Byrne cautiously getting out of his car to inspect an unresponsive Annie Clark who happens [...]

Shot entirely in black and white, it begins with Bryne hitting Annie with his station wagon, which I suppose is how this project actually began.
