As usual, we’re previewing some of the artists coming to the 9:30 Club this month and giving you the chance to enter to win tickets to one of the concerts below: Once again, we're giving you a chance to get an extra entry into the giveaway of your choice. Scroll down to preview some of the artists coming to the area this month and [...]

Real Estate has blasted onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 2009 and then followed-up with another indie darling, Days , in 2011. We've yet to see them live, so this will be a nice opportunity to get a visual of the tunes we have been spinning on our record player pretty consistently for the past three years. We have seen Titus Andronicus live a few times and they share a member, so if that is any indication as to the live show, then we are in for a treat!! [...]
Probably my favorite record of 2011 was Days , by Real Estate. Super excited to see that they're stopping by the Bottleneck as part of their just-announced spring tour.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

The Best Songs Of 2011 (76 - 100) Making the Best Albums list was relatively easy compared to nailing down the 100 best songs of 2011. The level of incredible music to surface this year is unbelievable. What's more difficult is trying to create some sort of order when laying these songs out, what makes [...]

We'll continue today with our top 25 countdown with albums #20 through #16. #20: Tom Waits - Bad As Me If I told you that Bad As Me starts off like a "roaring train," you'd have every right to disregard whatever I have to say about it. Of course it sounds like a train - it's Tom Waits ; the man who in his decades of work has become a physical manifestation of a midnight train and [...]

It’s that time! Time to eat, drink, be merry and write some lists! If you’ve been following the Blog for a while, you’ll have noticed that I approach the whole list-compiling thing with some trepidation but as the days move on, I get in to the spirit, and by the end, well… So, here goes: Seven Records I Should Own (and am a bit embarrassed that I don’t) (yet…) In the past I think I’ve used this list to give a cursory [...]
i hope you like dogs. because this video is full of them. Real Estate is a pretty chill band, generally a overall surf-rock vibe. if you havent heard of them i would give them a listen. also check out "Pool Swimmers" from their freshman self titled album if you need more convincing.
Day two of the end of year countdown, as voted for by the great and the good of the State team. This next five bring you two hip-hop giants rubbing shoulders with a UK folk band, a couple of Irish names from opposite ends of the spectrum and a range of North American alternative sounds. Have a good weekend and we'll return with the next installment on Monday. 40. Bombay Bicycle Club - A Different Kind Of Fix "A bit of folk here, a touch of dreamy guitar there, some jaunty [...]

Did you know that "Pop-Up Video" is back ? Neither did we until a few hours ago, but even VH1 is trying to clamor to the music industry of yesteryear. Not that we're complaining here at Sloane. I mean who wouldn't want to know that Britney shaved her head during the filming of "Womanizer ." While we doubt any of our favorite videos of 2011 will be showing up on VH1 anytime soon, we do think they'll keep you entertained for the next forty-odd minutes. From the animated, to the sentimental, to the really weird, we've got you covered. [...]

Y el turno de recomendarnos cosas es de Frida Lezama aka Frydah , integrante de los Bunker Soldiers. We leave you for the weekend with our favorite music videos of 2011 : you'll notice that the majority of these videos are of the low-budget, DIY variety, as most of the expansive / cinematic joints that dropped this year felt a little overwrought and, with a couple of notable exceptions, mostly fell flat for us. There are even a few found footage clips mixed in there, and (spoiler) our top two vids are both self-directed. Check the full list after the jump... click for GORILLA vs. BEAR's [...]
51. Gem Club - "Breakers" Stunning beautiful, simple piano piece. I can feel the whole world slowing down around me. 52. M83 - "New Map - vimeo Along with "Midnight City" and "Steve McQueen", this track got played a whole hell of a lot this year. While the album as a whole had some weak spots (I've found very few double LPs that wouldn't benefit from a shorter length), the high points were very high. This song stays with the basic formula [...]

Though it's not a very busy week for live music here in New York City, the artists visiting are all pretty big names. In fact, all three of our pre-Thanksgiving picks are sold out shows, so you'll have to click on the link to Craigslist and try your luck there. Have a great week, enjoy the beautiful autumn weather, and stuff your faces full of delicious turkey, stuffing/dressing, and sweet potatoes covered with marshmallows. M83 , Active Child @ Webster Hall (Sold Out // Craigslist ) [...]
As always, I'm super excited to be giving away tickets to a great show in our neighborhood. This time around it's Real Estate at Cosmic Charlie's. But since it's a show that pretty much everyone I know is looking forward to attending, I thought I'd make it a little harder this time... To enter to [...]

Chase your Saturday blahs away: ► Feist plays to a sold-out crowd at the Wiltern Theatre behind her new album "Metals." ► Real Estate visits the Echoplex behind the October release of its sophomore album "Days." The very good Slumberland Records band Big Troubles opens — go here to see their video for "She Smiles for Pictures." ► And KCRW-FM helps Amoeba celebrate its 10-year anniversary by broadcasting live from the Hollywood store all day, starting at noon with Chris Douridas and followed [...]
