Back in April I reviewed Those Darlins' Screws Get Loose and wrote: "While the songs on Screws Get Loose are all colored with the boozy and tattered astringency of time spent on the road, the mood is never weary but rather brazen and unrelenting. Those Darlins are a band that's hungry for more, whether it's success or simply kicking ass, drinking beer, and shredding guitar. From the first wail of album opener and title-track 'Screws Get Loose,' it's clear this is a band that one day may be, if not already, truly great." And now that [...]

Tuesday, March 8, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Noah is planning on getting a few snazzy SXSW movie recommendations up before the end of the week, but if you're curious about what I may try to see then you can check out my list here. Feel free to tell me that my choices are silly. Before the SOTO staff and myself spend the rest of the week rambling about who you should try to see at SXSW, let's talk Those Darlins. The [...]

Every year, we listen to mp3's of every band scheduled to appear at SXSW. We then present you with an A to Z preview of the bands that we think should earn your attention. Whether you're coming down to SXSW (recommended!) or just looking for new music, there's no better time of year. There's a variety of music here, so buckle up for some different sounds. We'll be previewing two letters per day, which'll take us right up to SXSW Music Week. Then we'll give you our picks for the "Ten bands you must see at SXSW!". This is part [...]
Country music purists may be stockpiling vinyl and dry goods for the Swiftocalypse, but all things considered, 2009 was a pretty good year for country music. Country music purists may be stockpiling vinyl and dry goods for the Swiftocalypse, but all things considered, 2009 was a pretty good year for country music. Eric Church, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ashley Monroe, Elvis Costello, and John Doe, to name just a few, all released solid albums and the ever-reliable George Strait was, well, reliable, but nudged at some boundaries by delivering a version of Mexican folksong "El Rey". Here are [...]

Those Darlins is quickly garnering a reputation worldwide for their amazing live shows and their mix of dirty garage, country, and punk. The band is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee and is currently on tour with The King Khan & BBQ Show . Since the unfortunate arrest of that band led to the Arizona date of this tour being canceled, we all missed out on what was sure to be one of the best rock shows of the year. While it hardly makes up for it, here's the single from their self-titled full length. The next time this band comes [...]
Following the debut album `SPQR` release last year, we were considering minor espionage to recover new Squirrelhouse material. We obviously got spotted with a strategically placed beer glass (ok, many empty glasses) on their adjoining wall. A week later a new track appeared in the mail box and the promise of a new album during 2010has saved us many undercover hours . "Driven by a local music scene that demands engaging, energetic performances, Squirrelhouse hsa developed a catchy sound that along with darkly nuanced lyrics demands repeat listens. With songs full of [...]
My current vote for best new artist of 2009 is Those Darlins . These hard drinkin', hard rockin' ladies from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, put out a great country rock album this summer. The twelve tracks sound like they could have been recorded in their neighborhood bar, and for all I know, they were. All three of the Darlins (Kelly, Jessi, and Nikki) co-write and co-sing all of the songs. The songs are about the eternal country themes of love, drinking, love and drinking, craziness, Mama, trains, binge eating while drunk, and living in the sticks. Unfortunately [...]

The funloving foursome you see above are Those Darlins... Jessi, Kelley, & Nikki Darlin along with drummer, Sheriff Lin. Those Darlins brought their unique blend of punk and country to Knoxville last week for Tennessee Shines. Roughly one hour before they took the stage at the Bijou Theatre... Jessi, Kelley, and Nikki stopped by the WDVX studios to talk a little bit about their debut album, what to expect from one of their performances (be prepared for anything really), and a few other projects they are involved in. I recorded their visit, and would like to [...]
Here's the latest video from Those Darlins , the countrified, rock-n-roll outfit out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee led by the all-girl trio of Jessi, Nikki, and Kelley Darlin. Always a sucker for a nice animated video, "Red Light Love" was illustrated and directed by Jessi Darlin, with additional artwork assistance from Nikki Darlin and Sheriff Lin (the band's drummer and lone male member). I give it two animated thumbs up! I happened to catch Those Darlins at iS Venue here in C'ville back in May and [...]
Murfreesboro TN's finest, Those Darlins , have a brand new video they've crafted for the lead track from their self-titled album. In fact, Jessi Darlin directed and illustrated this clip for "Red Light Love" while Nikki Darlin and Sheriff Lin contributed additional art work - a family affair indeed. Check it out - as well as their upcoming fall tour dates - below.... See Those Darlins Live: AUGUST 22 - Chattanooga, TN @ JJ's Bohemia 26 - Knoxville, TN [...]
Tennessee indie popsters Those Darlins have just released a video for their highly infectious track "Red Light Love". The video was animated by the band's Jessi Darlin.Check out the fun here:Those Darlins' websiteThose Darlins' Myspace

THOSE DARLINS - One of the most memorable sets we ever walked into owas Those Darlin's who were visiting Boston - a couple of years back. Ever since then we have done whatever we can to catch them wherever and whenever we can. In the hot " Red Light Love " music video we hear churning rock and go-go dancer beats entwined... And the video, depicting epic heartache and cheap love, was directed and illustrated by Jessi Darlin, herself. [ Additional credits : Teddy Gage - Animation. Some art by Nikki Darlin [...]
Those Darlins defy country image with power pop charisma
I've posted the MP3 for this song a month or two back, but the brand new video for Those Darlins' "Red Light Love" is so cool that it deserves a post of its own. The video was directed and illustrated by Jessi Darlin herself, with additional artwork done by Nikki Darlin and Sheriff Lin. The band has also announced a slew of new live dates that will keep them on the road through a Halloween show in Houston with none other than The Meat Puppets . Not exactly [...]
Straight from an appearance on the Travel Channel with Samantha Brown (wtf?) Those Darlins continue to let it ride this summer, releasing a video for their fantastic single "Red Light Love" it's an all animated affair recalling something along the lines of Peanuts, meets Scooby Doo meets The Drive-By Truckers. Surprised they went with the drawings, given that they're, ya know, hot, but doesn't matter to us any, thumbs up. Their self titled debut is available now.
Loving the animation for the new video for "Red Light Love". Those Darlins are just as cute as cartoon characters as they are in person.
Have a look at the new video for "Red Light Love" from Those Darlins. This one happens to be my favorite track from their eponymous debut record. Just, you know, for the record. It was illustrat... Continue reading "Fall Dates, Fresh Vid: Those Darlins, 'Red Light Love'" >
