Joey Burns and John Convertino's Calexico is still riding the cultural divide, blending Southwestern balladry and Latin influence with brooding indie rock. Its song "Crystal Frontier" even reached outer space on a recent Shuttle mission . But Burns and Convertino are just normal dudes who write about public hangings and bloodthirsty posses.
