Shift by Grizzly Bear As their September 26th show at Massey Hall quickly approaches and my excitement heightens, I thought it all too appropriate to share the wonders of Grizzly Bear. When attempting to select a song, the decision was difficult, but I landed on a favourite off their debut album that can transport you, whether you go with the classic, the alternate version, the remixes, or the take away. Grizzly Bear’s Shift off Horn of Plenty was released back in 2004, but that doesn’t mean the song has lost its [...]

So I think it must be the relatively cool, gloomy weather or the fact that it's been a pretty chill day (meaning I've basically been lazing around at home all day) or the fact that it's about 2 weeks from the release of Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest ; but it's been a very Grizzly Bear-centric day music wise. Watching live videos, staring at the wall while listening to Horn of Plenty , imagining myself at a Grizzly Bear gig... for about 6 hours. Gotta love the days when you are just [...]

Just thinking about the concept of this EP, it tells the listener something about Grizzly Bear. Some artists are quick to discard their past material as old-hat. They rotate aged--and sometimes classic--songs out of their set lists, never to be played again. In a music business climate of short attention spans and impatience, this may seem like the right thing to do. On Grizzly Bear's new release, they take the opposite approach. They make this EP an opportunity to rework songs from their past two albums, Horn of Plenty and Yellow House , [...]
this video completely kills me.
I think almost all of the blog-0-sphere love the new Grizzly Bear record-- Yellow House . I know this blog has posted about it several times. And as for why I am posting about them again? One might say I'm, "...slightly obsessed." I was reading Rewriteable Content a few weeks ago and I saw the video they had posted of the song 'Shift', which is off the Horn of Plenty album. I agree with most of the comments on youtube.com in the sense that this video is indeed [...]
For the longest time I had the constant feeling that I was behind the game as far as blogging went. I'd watch all the big blogs miraculously find incredible bands one after the other, while I scoured the internet and found barely any notable bands to call my own. I was simply regurgitating a post about a band I'd just read on four other blogs. The only band I can really remember lately finding on my own was Decomposure, and that was almost a year ago. So what gives I thought? [...]
If anyone at all could figure out the chords to the fingerpicking going on in that video of Grizzly Bear playing a wicked cool version of "Shift" (see a few posts down), I'd be exceeding greatful. So much so, in fact, that if you successfully tab that guitar part for me, I'll send you an advanced, promo copy of Yellow House . Basically, if I can play that part to my liking successfully based on chords, or if you fully tab that repetitive fingerpicking part, you'll pick yourself up the CD. Sound good? [...]
I absolutely love Grizzly Bear 's new album Yellow House . So much so, in fact, that it's getting an official (that's right) review from IGIF when we make a few changes to the site in the upcoming weeks (hmm, right around our 500th post no less!) (pps: Nathaniel doesn't even know, heheheh). I won't remark any further on the album or the songs, I'll save my comments for the review, but I'll let some of our friends do the talking: Yellow House is going to be one of your favorite albums of [...]
Stuart Staples , ex-leader of the Tindersticks sings this vibrant song with two members of his former band . The four guys from the band Grizzly bear were locked up in a small parisian bathroom and were asked to play one of their songs . They did great : the song was so beautiful we almost forgot we were in a bathroom. [...]
There are so many reasons to love Grizzly Bear and Yellow House , and these vids are just two of 'em. Ed forwarded these along to me, recorded in Paris by French blog La Blogotheque . Capturing the guys in an apartment and on the street, giving stripped and charming versions of "Shift" (from Horn of Plenty ) and one of many Yellow standouts "Knife." Everyone that hears the new album is in agreement. Stunning stuff. Ed also gave me an advance of a collab [...]
