So as we inevitably head towards the end of year list it is probably a good time for me to squeeze in this reference to Muse's Olympic track Survival. It's been one of the few stand out tracks for me this year and yet I didn't get in to it until after the Olympics and even more disappointingly until after I'd finished my half marathon and all the training that goes with it. The other day I skimmed an amusing article online that re-imagined the 2012 Summer Olympics relocated to the United States. What would the opening ceremony have sounded like? According to the article, not so good. It conjured a mental image of an overblown Hollywood blockbuster-style affair directed not by Danny Boyle ( Slumdog Millionaire ), but by Michael Bay ( Armageddon , the Transformers series), and headlined perhaps by the Black Eyed Peas. Today's the day, the London 2012 Olympics will begin in around 8.5 hours with the opening ceremony. Watch this extraordinary Olympic athlete montage video featuring Muse's London 2012 official song, "Survival". This video gives me chills every time I watch it... just perfect. Where Muse slipped up Chemical Brothers deliver. The 2012 Olympics in London apparently has an official song: Muse 's "Survival." There's even an official Olympics video for the song. We're not sure what's weirder: That the Olympics have an official song or that the Olympics selected a Muse tune to be the official song.

I think that when Muse released their new song "Survival" last week that was announced to be the official 2012 Olympic Games in London theme song, there was no doubt in anybody's mind that a video would follow shortly after with some pretty epic moments in Olympic history. Somehow though, Muse and whoever else they worked with to make this video managed to blow my expectations completely out of the water with what is one emotionally packed video that will surely make you wish you tried just a little bit harder on your grade school track team. When thinking about British arena rock juggernauts Muse and sports montages, one word springs readily to mind: epic. Whether or not you care for Muse's histrionics and musical pyrotechnics, it's hard to deny that their anthemic "Survival" makes both a suitably rousing accompaniment to a video of Olympic highlights and a perfectly fitting choice for the official song of the 2012 London Olympics (even if we will likely have to hear it during every commercial break).
