This week's Sample Sunday is on a track by the man responsible for the best rap group to have ever existed, A Tribe Called Quest. To me, Q-Tip's track Listen is an underrated, yet classic example of the magic that results when combining J-Dilla's beat making talents with Q-Tip's musical genius. The track consists of a heavy, bold drum beat, some tight funk-like sampled guitar jabs and a dirty low, low off-beat bass line, all flowing simultaneously as Q-Tip rips the whole track apart while his lyrics dance in contrast with the beat.
