Adverts and music go together like cold and flu medicine. You don't really want either of them but they're sometimes shoved down your throat anyway, and if you consume them recreationally there's probably something wrong with you. The trend recently has just been for TV commercials to half-inch a recognisable tune - whether it's the 'YMCA' or the Oompa-Loompa song - and simply sing the companies name to the tune. In those cases (you'd hope at least) the original songwriters are probably compensated in some way. Maybe with cheap car insurance [...]
It's the Super Bowl of music, and we're guessing who will be the MVPs. While the Billboard Music Awards are based on sales and the American Music Awards are determined by public voting, The Grammys are given out because of the opinions of a relatively small but influential group. Often the rarest honor a musician can receive, the Grammy is, for one reason or another, the award that usually means the most to them. This weekend, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will be handing out the...
Current Grammy nominees The Black Keys have just been confirmed to perform live at the 55th annual awards in Los Angeles. Last month we brought you news that the band has been nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, and Producer of the Year (Dan Auerbach). With an inevitable win or two (or, hopefully, sweep!) in their future, it's only fitting that the unstoppable duo is now scheduled to perform as well! With several [...]

The Lumineers at KEXP / photo by Morgen Schuler It’s time again for Friday on My Mind , our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. For this week, we are looking at KEXP friendly artists who are nominated for Grammy awards this year. This past Wednesday night, the nominees for the next Grammy awards ceremony were announced in Nashville, TN. The 55th Annual Grammys Awards ceremony will be broadcast on Sunday February 10th. The very [...]
Since we HAVE to give these FREE tickets to the Black Keys away, who wants them?
This is The Black Keys ’ second attempt at a video clip for ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ from the lovely El Camino . For comparison’s sake, the original video is at the end of this ‘ere post. But what we’re talking about here is this one, directed by Harmony Korine . Before we begin, I’m going to point something out to you, how much does Dan Auerbach look like our very own Husky Gawenda ? Weird right? But you know who looks more like Auerbach ? His vertically-challenged double. [...]
Em Fevereiro os The Black Keys lançaram o vídeo oficial de "Gold On The Ceiling" pelas mãos de Reid Long. [...]

As I was reviewing the Black Keys for the Georgia Straight , something occurred to me: I'm pretty sure that I had never reviewed an arena show before that one. I've covered plenty of large theatre shows, and the odd large park show, but I don't think I'd ever written about a gig in Rogers Arena (which is where this one was). I'm a little surprised it took so long to happen, but it was a great show. The video for "Gold on the Ceiling" is below.

THE BLACK KEYS, ARCTIC MONKEYS ( Rose Garden , 1 Center Ct) Read our article on the Black Keys . AGESANDAGES, SUN ANGLE, DEATH SONGS ( Mississippi Studios , 3939 N Mississippi) The energetic intervals and infectious clapping of AgesandAges appeals to all ages—but no kids allowed at their upcoming show at Mississippi Studios. Sun Angle and Death Songs open for the Portland group, who promise brand-new songs to cure those Monday blues. CLARE GORDON [...]
Well, somebody at Pizza Hut needs to be talked to. The above commercial clearly knocks off "Gold On The Ceiling" by The Black Keys. Check it out. For A-B purposes, here's the original version from The Black Keys: Thanks to We All Want Someone To Shout For for pointing this out.
Apparently there's this cute little girl that goes by the name of Grimes and makes outrageously wonderfully candid videos to look at. Other really cool stuff for your eyes by Sophia Knapp, Karin Park and Andrew Gregory, as well as new clips from The Black Keys, Cass McCombs and Plants and Animals. All below. -Matt
Tweet vaso link For some reason I had it in my head that we posted this video already, but a quick look on the site reveals that we did not. Shot in/around the Akron, OH band's release show for their late 2011 album El Camino , the video for "Gold On The Ceiling" showcases The Black Keys doing exactly what they are built to do: rock the hell out of a crowd.
Indie darlings The Black Keys are back with the second video from their album El Camino . This time, they chose the pure rock jam "Gold on the Ceiling" and made something quite different from the quirky instructional dance video for "Lonely Boy." Filmed at the album release show at the famed Webster Hall in New York , during recording in Hollywood, and on tour, the video makes use of crowd, backstage and performance footage and matches it to the tempo and feel of the song. Watching it made me feel as if Dan [...]
Here is the official video for "Gold On The Ceiling" from The Black Keys newest album, El Camino. They have took over nicely in the world with no new White Stripes.

The Black Keys are back yet with a recently released music video for their single, "Gold On The Ceiling", off of their newest album release, El Camino. Currently, The Black Keys are scheduled to headline on Friday, April 13 and...

“I’m looking for something that’ll…break through. You know?” James Woods’ Max Renn yearns in David Cronenberg’s 1983 cult classic Videodrome . Oh, how things have changed. In today’s day and age, we’ve already drowned in media. It’s swallowed us. We’re nothing but a bubble amidst one infinite, engulfing abyss. Intimidated? You should be. With each passing second, you’re losing opportunities to take advantage of a culture that’s moving ahead and at an exhausting rate. You could very well be alone…left behind…abandoned. Terrified yet? Yes? Well, that’s more like it. -Michael Roffman President/Editor-in-Chief [...]
