Vi ho parlato proprio ieri, facendovi vedere il video di Lil Wayne , di un tipo di hip hop che non ci piace un granché. Oggi per puro caso mi sono imbattuto nell'esatto contrario. Il brano in questione è quello di Q-Tip , stage name del'hip hop mc del Queens Jonathan Davis. Q-tip è uno dei migliori produttori di hip hop della East Coast, membro fondatore degli A Tribe Called Quest forse il primo e più importante gruppo capace di fondere l'hip hop alle sonorità del jazz in modo più che sorprendente. This slinky funk, sample-stitched new song from Q-Tip is pretty much the jam. "Life Is Better" features Norah Jones, she of cool covers and platinum wigged fame, singing the track's main motif as if she's already years deep in the new soul/hip-hop-hook racket. Actually it's NoJo's first second such collab, and she sorta dominates the playing time with Kamaal backing her up (after two minutes) with just one long verse. And, in case you can't pick up the hint from listening to the track, yep, that's North Texas' own Norah Jones taking care of the former Tribe leader's chorus. Nice. Seems like Ms. Jones, who's pretty cool in her own right, has been trying to up her non- Starbucks-associated cool quotient of late between this and her punk rock side project El Madmo , no?
