Kendrick Lamar is easily one of the most talented faces in hip-hop, with his Section.80 mixtape being one of the best hip-hop releases in years. While he may be talented lyrically and production-wise, his music videos never quite match up to that high level of quality. Given that hip-hop culture has long glamorized alcohol use (and even abuse), I have to give props to Kendrick Lamar for dropping this new song. Despite what its catchy chorus might suggest, Lamar's new single "Swimming Pools (Drank)" is a cautious, dark, and surprisingly personal indictment of alcohol use, and a lamentation of the place that alcohol has in the life of a rapper. Every song he rips up with his monster flow and wordplay. However, most of the time the videos that are released for these songs tend to be pretty bland.
