Thursday, June 18, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: So I'm on the lookout for some recommendations on a nice pair of shelf speakers and a subwoofer to go with a stereo system that I'm building. It'll mainly be playing vinyl, and if possible I'd rather not spend a zillion dollars. Discuss! About a month ago I prefaced a new Modest Mouse release by saying that while their last LP wasn't great, I still liked it. Well, it would seem that I'm in [...]

Ignore the nearly one and half week departure kids, Bears and Bullets is back and is ready to pick off where we once left off. We didn't leave off anywhere specific, so this should be easy for the both of us. Anyway, I was the one of the unfortunately four out of 4000 bloggers that didn't attend SXSW this year (okay, I haven't ever), but thanks to everyone else's hard-sought efforts I get to reap the minimal benefits they left behind. In short, here's some of the best SXSW special [...]
This is the new track that Modest Mouse has been playing on tour for quite some time. "Satellite Skin" will be released as a 7 inch on Record Store Day aka April 18th. via Stereogum
Modest Mouse performs their newest single on Letterma, Friday the 20th.
...it's been a minute since we've heard anything from Modest Mouse , so it's good to see that the band's appearance on the David Letterman show finds them in good form, even if they are Marr-less these days. Channeling a bit of that Pavement twang, this performance of "Satellite Skin" has us interested to see where Isaac Brock takes us next...
In response to all the End Hits action regarding the, stuffy, stodgy, pussy-footed Decemberists, I present a video of Portland's Best BIG Band, from last night's appearance on David Letterman: "I think so," says Dave in reverence. "I think so. Gentlemen, you've passed the audition." [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]
Performing "Satellite Skin". Letterman is still on TV? PigeonsandPlanes

Modest Mouse played The Late Show with David Letterman last night, hot off their Spring tour without Johnny Marr. The band, who is releasing a 73 single for Record Store Day (April 18th) went on to Letterman to promote new single "Satellite Skin", which is backed by "Guilty Cocker Spaniels". This is the first of four 73 singles which will lead up to a new EP (to be released in early August) entitled No One's Next and You're First . Video of "Satellite Skin" from Letterman and "Guilty Cocker Spaniels" from [...]

Modest Mouse has been performing this song since last summer -- we heard it again in Hollywood last month -- though this Letterman clip is probably the best indication of how it will sound on record. Said record is an orange vinyl single b/w "Guilty Cocker Spaniels." MM is minus a Marr these days ( Johnny's now a full time Crib ), but this tune is really a showcase for Isaac anyway. A showcase for Isaac to channel Pavement's "Here," but still. Jokes Dave at the end, "You passed the audition." Continue reading Modest [...]
One of the tracks that will be featured on a 7" single is "Satellite Skin" and Modest Mouse performed the track last night on the Late Show With David Letterman. No Johnny Marr....will he ever return?

Modest Mouse - "Satellite Skin" Modest Mouse is releasing a new 8-song EP, No One's First And You're Up Next in August, preceded by 4 7-inches (exclusive to independent stores). The first of these 7-inches will be the "Satellite Skin" b/w "Guilty Cocker Spaniels" 7-inch that's coming out on Record Store Day . And is it safe to assume that since 4 x 2-song 7-inches = 8 songs, that the upcoming EP will = the same 8 songs from the 7-inches? There's also a totally unsubstantiated rumor that both [...]
Modest Mouse performed, sans Johnny Marr, on Late Night with David Letterman last night. The band recently finished up a tour, which Marr declined to join because he was working with the Cribs on their new album. He's also recently been talking to the Pet Shop Boys about the first shows he played with Bernard Sumner in Electronic. The new limited edition EP from Modest Mouse that Letterman mentions in his intro will be available in a special format on Record Store Day (April 18). The tracks "Satellite Skin" and "Guilty Cocker Spaniels" will [...]
