Way Down in the Hole - M.I.A. with Blaqstarr This has been out for quite a while, since late last year actually. M.I.A. recruited Blaqstarr to do this very respectable Tom Waits cover. With Tom Wait's words, M.I.A.'s style and Blaqstarr's vocals, this track is well-worth posting after the fact! Apparently the video cost them a whopping $9.95!

I completely slept on the last few We Make It Good mixtapes . Check them out over at the Fader/WMIG site . On a sidenote, is it just me or is the name We Make It Good a little ot close to Mad Decent? Just doesnt fly with me, but who gives a shhh when the music is consistently this tight. These are solid mixtapes form musicians that need to be heard. Fader as a magazine runs in direct competition with XLR8R in the States. And they rule the high seas when [...]

I started a new job last week, and I'm way behind on my blog reading, so here's me trying to catch up like usual. Mr. Chop - "Zoid" "Zoid" is about as dark and sinister a mood piece as you can get, with droning synths sorta like Thomas Bangalter's "Paris by Night" , but with the beat moving double-time. ( via ) Speaking of things dark and sinister, Blaqstarr and M.I.A 's cover of "Way Down in the Hole" is an exciting bit of bleak and [...]

Blink and you'd have missed it! Two weeks ago M.I.A. put a new track up on her Myspace, a collaboration with Blaqstarr in anticipation of the U.S. election. No prizes for guessing who she backed for Commander in Chief... Obama beatz detected. Although I'm delighted that the release of new M.I.A. material of some description obviously indicates that she isn't retired or festering in a crack den, I can't help but wonder (I feel a Carrie Bradshaw moment...) why she has to make SUCH a big deal out of something so innocuous as an election. Before [...]
Above is the video for "S.U.S. (Save Ur Soul)," Blaq Starr's new collaboration with M.I.A. Also, Blaq Starr will be performing at Sonar on November 13th.
Pretty interesting.... Enjoy!

M.I.A has teamed up with Blaqstarr for this new song 'Save UR Soul'. M.I.A had this to say about the video on her Myspace page... "Me and Blaqstarr found the image at the end from a Joy Division video and thought about the election and thats how people want you to see the world , black/ white , good/ evil, jesus/devil" Save Ur Soul ( Download [...]
M.I.A has teamed up with Blaqstarr to cover the theme tune to everyones favourite TV show...that's right, she's done a killer version of Anita Dobson's 'Anyone Can Fall In Love' from EastEnders. Not really. It's 'Way Down In The Hole' originally by Tom Waits and it's from The Wire. Moody. Not amazing, but nice nonetheless. If you haven't watched The Wire yet you really should, as a white guy from Kent it really speaks to me about my struggles.
Blaqstarr & M.I.A. covering Tom Waits ? Yes please. Makes me wish there was at least one more season left of the Wire. This video reportedly cost $10 to make and for what it's worth - that's pretty damn brilliant. b-more stand up! Related posts: Video: Termanology feat. Bun B - How We Rock Video: J the S feat. B.O.B.
Told you she wouldn't be gone for long. Just when we were getting all bummed that we weren't going to hear from M.I.A. [Official Site, MySpace] for a bit, she went and teamed up with...

This M.I.A. and Blaqstarr track entitled Way Down In The Hole starts in a country and slightly monotonous tone but with real patience, you'll get the M.I.A. feel. I love how the sound seems so old school. A bit like Cypress Hill but WAY BETTER. M.I.A . and Blaqstarr have released a new track via YouTube called Way Down In The Hole . M.I.A. describes the video below as the cheapest she’s ever made, costing her $9.95. Ahaha. Check it out below. [...]
M.I.A. gets with resident Baltimore mic controller, Blaqstarr to rework Tom Wait's music. M.I.A. & Blaqstarr - Way Down in the Hole (The Wire Theme Song)

M.I.A. and Baltimore's own Blaqstarr teamed up to do a Way Down in the Hole (Tom Waits) cover, mixing up various versions of the song that can be found as the theme song for The Wire . The song itself isn't fantastic, but like any song featuring M.I.A. it has some crazy beats! In the hands of a capable DJ, this could rock a few clubs silly. From the video's end, It's clearly low budget, and when I say low, I mean really low. "cheapest video ever made...i spent $9.95 on it. [...]
The television show, The Wire has a new theme, featuring M.I.A and Blaqstarr for their rendition of Tom Waits' "Way Down In the Hole." Hey, it could be worse. It could be Scarlett Johansson covering Waits for The Wire. via...
M.I.A. and Baltimore's Blaqstarr try out the theme song from The Wire, "Way Down in the Hole" (a Tom Waits original), in this video that supposedly cost $10 to make. ...
When she talked to Jessica Suarez about what was up a couple of weeks ago. M.I.A. told us that this was coming, a version of Tom Waits' "Way Down in the Hole", the track from Frank's Wild Years since known in myriad versions as the theme from "The Wire", made with Baltimore's Blaqstarr . She changes it up quite a bit here, however, making it her own. As for the video, it supposedly cost $10 to make, but we've certainly seen worse.
