So, the defining battle of our time has been fought, and won, and now it's official: is better than Or, at least, Somebody That I Used To Know has bested We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together for Record Of The Year at the Grammys. For reasons that have never been convincingly explained, of course, the 'record of the year' isn't the same thing as 'song of the year' - and here, We Are Young (or 'We Are Writing The Song So We Can Live [...]
As a site, we've brought you lists of our favorite National Albums and Nashville Albums of 2012. Those picks are a pretty balanced representation of the diverse taste of our principal contributors. We've also got a Best Nashville Concerts of 2012 list going up shortly, which is a compilation of our favorites (since we go to many, many different shows and since our individual take on concerts is even more personal than our album rankings). If you read my weekly record reviews (and some of my show previews), you might have pegged that I [...]

10. Justin Bieber - Boyfriend This little diddy messed up late 20 year olds for 6 months straight when at first glance they thought it was a Justin Timberlake song they were singing along to. Little did they know they were humming along to the leader of the bushwacka club, Justin Beleiber. Not to mention, the video, the Nsyncer ripoff was tops. Below is a little reminder of why we loved this track even though it annoyed us. Version #2 preferred [...]

What I'm trying to do is hamstring myself by doing all the easy ones now. That way, I make it really hard when I have to decide whether I want to talk about Flo Rida or One Direction . Plus, I've been singing this all day and so it seems fitting to talk about it. Finally, you definitely know this song if you have listened to any of the past 10 or so countdowns (which, I'm kind of guessing you have?) So here's a Gotye smorgasbord. The original video: [...]
You don't need to be at Coachella to see Gotye live this week! UCLA Radio is giving you the chance to see him and Missy Higgins at Nokia Theatre this Thursday April 19th! Don't miss out! Be sure to tune ... Continued

We loved Gotye's artistic take on the music video for "Somebody I Used to Know." In the original video, the Aussie appears painted to match a background cubistic painting. From the fractured design, Kimbra appears alongside him also covered in paint to sing her haunting part. It turns out we weren't the only ones that loved this video - the cast of SNL did as well, recently spoofing the music video in one of Andy Samberg's digital skits made when Gotye was set to perform on the show. The spoof is hilarious. Watch the original and then check [...]
I got my wisdom teeth removed today, and as I drifted off into a sweet, nitrous oxide & IV anesthetic-induced slumber, this sweet tune was just ending on kxt through my headphones...It was a transcendental experience. Here's Gotye's "Somebody That I Use To Know," a somber conversation between exes in a terrifically executed pop duet, [...]
I know I'm late on fucking everything right now, and this chick isn't exactly new new, (song came out over a year ago) but last week Knife played me this video On Demand and for some reason I fell in love with her at about the 2:26 mark.. Sidenote: I am losing my touch. This video has like 150 million fucking views and I saw it for the first time last week. Anyway... Something about the profile shot of her lips, the parts where her mouth is open as if she is [...]
GOTYE, KIMBRA ( Crystal Ballroom , 1332 W Burnside) Read our article on Gotye . JAMES, THOMAS DOLBY, ELIZAVETA ( Roseland , 8 NW 6th) Hey, remember the tape you made with "She Blinded Me with Science" on it (track 1, side B)? Hey, remember hearing "Laid" on the radio and dubbing that over the same tape? Well, this is it for real: Thomas Dolby and James, inexplicably touring together. Like an awesome [...]
Gotye and Kimbra's music video for "Somebody That I Used to Know" is perhaps the break-up experience of the year. Watching will leave the viewer wrapped up in tantalizing, emotional excitement, or a
A Punch é uma tirana. Pediu-me para escrever sobre o novo álbum de Gotye não da perspectiva da saída do álbum mas da perspectiva “viagem ao mundo Gotye”. Perante isto, imagine-se a responsabilidade. E a expectativa. Meu Deus, a expectativa.

It’s been about a week since my return from SXSW, and it’s taken me the same amount of time to gather my thoughts on my experience. This was my second pilgrimage to the music mecca known as South by Southwest, a 9-day festival that celebrates all things music, film, and interactive media. Cincinnati was represented in every facet of the festival, from showcases featuring some of the city’s best bands to a bus full of promising local startups to a full-on flash mob in the middle of 6th Street. Yet with so many bands, [...]

Gotye FRIDAY, MARCH 23rd Gotye (that’s pronounced go-ti-yay, or Wally De Backer) had already made a splash in the singer’s home of Australia. But his recent single “Somebody I Used To Know” featuring Kimbra and its music video (which has over 100 million views on Youtube) shot him into international fame. He’s held the number one spot on the UK for five weeks and made it to number five in the US. The singer, whose voice has drawn parallels to The Police and Peter Gabriel, mixes genres from rock to pop [...]
