Remember when Merge Records was synonymous with genre-defining indie rock and had a whole roster of bands whose albums you couldn't wait to get your hands on? Well, guess what? They still are, and do! The venerable Durham, North Carolina, label proves they're still up to their game with two releases this week in heavy rotation at KEXP. Bay Area veterans Imperial Teen return with their fifth album overall and their third on Merge, Feel the Sound , which, according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "continues to refine and expand upon their infectious blend of power-pop, [...]

Tweet Did everyone go on about this 6 months ago and I just missed it? Somebody That I Used To Know spent 8 weeks at the top of the Australian charts, and had huge success in other parts of Europe, including becoming the biggest-hit-ever in Poland, spending 15 weeks at the number 1 spot. It passed me by completely. The record and video suddenly seem to be everywhere now though and it's quite something. [...]
Here is my current obsession. I have been playing this tragic break-up tune on repeat for the past couple of weeks. I'm probably going wear it out soon, and I am pretty sure I've already ruined it for several of my friends. I don't really care for all of the remixes and covers that have been floating around for this song. There is just something addictive about the original, and Kimbra's short little bridge leading into the second chorus about gives me goosebumps every time. Well that's enough from me, just watch the video and let me know what you [...]
If you're a little behind on Candy, I suggest you check out this week's posts about David Letterman, Joy Division and Yuksek.

Gotye's album, 'Making Mirrors,' is set to be released stateside on January 31st (happy birthday to me), but you can listen to it in its entirety now thanks to NPR . When I was first introduced to the extremely palatable single, "Somebody That I Used To Know," featuring Kimbra, I must have hit replay about ten times, and the accompanied video is pretty neat as well (see below). Actually, I think the video is rather brilliant, it makes the song much more potent. Thematically, 'Making Mirrors' is pretty consistent but musically, it's very eclectic. [...]

Two different bands singing to the same song. One from Canada and one from Australia. It is the song Somebody That I Used To Know. OK I am kind of way behind on this viral Youtube sensation. Alot of people on social media have been posting the video of Walk Off The Earth's Somebody That I Used To Know . Since January 5th, the video has reached about 27 million views. Walk Off The Earth is a band from Burlington, Ontario. What made them [...]
Expressing the excitement rattling my bones at the thought of the annual music pilgrimage to Coachella Valley in words would be impossible - so I won't. I'll just leave the weekend in paradise in the recesses of my brain. For the time being, we get to talk about the amazing talent we get to witness live, out in the middle of the California desert during springtime, soaking in invigorating rays of sun and waves of sound, living life as a dream. Sunday is straight stacked with EDM talent. You know who you're gonna see in [...]
Saturday treat! Gotye - Somebody I Used to Know (featuring Kimbra) Sometimes, at tuneage, we accidentally let great music slide past our radar. Allow me to now rectify this mistake and present Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know . I love the Peter Gabriel and 80s pop influence in this song but it’s the music video that really won me over. Unlike the narrative arc within the lyrics, the music video isn’t necessarily trying to tell a story. It emotes and I find it to be at once be enchanting [...]

I'm a bit behind on this song, but it's too good to just sit on. Here's Australia's newest export, Gotye.
The internet broke twice yesterday, first around noon when At the Drive-In tweeted out their unexpected reunion news, and then roughly seven hours later when COACHELLA unveiled its incredible 2012... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

I came across a wonderful song recently - 5 people playing a song on a single guitar... Once the novelty wore off (no, no it still hasn't, to be honest...), I tracked down the original song to an artist called Gotye (pronounced "Gore-ti-yeah"). And found, to quote from a comment on YouTube on one of his videos, a modern day Peter Gabriel. Gotye, or to give him his full name, Wouter "Wally" De Backer, is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter. And WHAT a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental [...]
Impressive acoustic cover you all should watch!
Gotye ft. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know
For the upbeat, prog-pop rhythms and Sting-like melody -- there's nothing light lyrically about "Somebody That I Used to Know", a devastatingly pointed and acerbic look back on a relationship gone bad from Belgian-born instrumentalist and songwriter Gotye . With support from fellow Aussie (and DC fave) Kimbra on vocal counterpoint, "Somebody" was a sizable hit Down Under -- and a great starting point for the uninitiated to Gotye's latest album Making Mirrors , finally making a stateside appearance January 31. Watch the video after the jump. [...]
[New Album] Kimbra - Vows // This NZ-native currently inhabits Melbourne, Oz, and has been making some well-deserved noise in the music scene downunder with her quirky soulful pop, especially after her 2011 collab with Gotye : Buy ‘Vows’ from iTunes here .

I just heard this on Radio 104.52s new music segment. In my google research, I see it's not technically new, but that doesn't mean it's not great and worth sharing. I've never heard of Gotye or Kimbra , but from the sound of this song, they're both great vocally. Gotye sounds like he's on some throwback Gabriel and Sting type shit. Check out "Somebody That I Used To Know". It's kinda haunting. I dig that. GOTYE FEAT. KIMBRA - SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW
