Here's where to tip 'em back this weekend in Cleveland. Which show will you choose for your Halloween weekend? TVD-Cleveland's pick? We're torn. Either way, our two featured shows occur at the Beachland , 10/29. First, let's talk Hugh Cornwell (from the Stranglers). Cornwell is touring with drummer Clem Burke (Blondie) and Steve Fishman. Dear Frontier Psychiatrist, Reportedly Muse wants to play a show in outer space . Which bands would you most like to see in space? Space Oddity Dear Space, First of all, I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure Muse have already played on a space station: Second of all, space may or may not be bounded , but it's certainly really effing big. So, let's try to focus this question a bit: [...]

If you love 60's soul and R&B and lyrics about the pleasure and perils of love, you'll fall for Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Matt shared "I Learned The Hard Way" in his Sonic Stew #4 a while back. We've got more treats from I Learned The Hard Way , which is the gang's fourth studio album. Jones sounds as good as ever, and The Dap-Kings provide such an authentic soulful musical accompaniment that it makes time travel seem possible. I am a sucker for these tunes, and thoroughly looking forward to the new album, which drops [...]

Thursday, February 4, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: The Dead Weather have let it slip that they're planning to release a new album later this year. Honestly, I'm OK with that (the debut was solid), but I'm beginning to seriously feel the need to not have a Jack White-lead project around for a long while. You with me? As if they knew I needed a little help getting through the week, Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings are back with a new single! [...]

When the monster indie comp Dark Was The Night came out last year, I was introduced to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Needless to say, life instantly got better. This year, she and her dap kings are back with a new LP entitled I Learned The Hard Way which will be out May 4th. Check out the tracklist and a few tour dates after the video. 01 The Game Gets Old 02 I Learned the [...]

A while ago I was listening to NPR and happened upon a piece about Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Teri Gross from Fresh Air interviewed Sharon and one of the guys from the band, and I found myself more or less riveted. After listening to the band described as "1969 Soul," hearing a couple of singles and even seeing the cover of the album, I was sold. This band I had to see. Well, they are playing at the Black Cat on the 17th of January and you bet I have tickets. Their music [...]

Best Albums 2007 No03 Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - 100 Days,100 Nights [released.2/10/2007.Daptone Records] Soul Rules!!
It's 11:30pm at night, and Sharon Jones and her backing band The Dap-Kings ("The Dap-Kings are Soul Excitement!") are laying down a fiery version of the track " Answer Me ", the finale track from their recently released album 100 Days, 100 Nights in a tiny recording studio in the Daptone Records house in Bushwick, NY. Jones sits at a huge honky-tonk piano, and the bassist coaches her on the first notes to get them both in sync. The guitarist sits just around the corner, tight but comfortable on his seat as he plays, [...]
To go along with her classic R&B/ soul sound, the director apparently bought two vintage video cameras off of ebay to film this video in the classic style. Sort of reminds me of some of those vintage gospel videos in style.
