Look, we do like the new Wilco record, and lord knows we're huge fans of Tweedy and Co., but last night's performance on Conan just felt....empty. Sure, the band was playing in their fancy-shmancy suits, but they just seemed spaced out and sort of bland. This new Wilco track, "You Never Know" is a nice, mid-tempo track with a strong guitar solo to boot. Their new album, which has been hyped and leaked for the last couple of months, finally comes out this Tuesday.

Tweedy and the gang decided to class themselves up for The Tonight Show last night, dusting off the Nudie Suits they debuted at Lollapalooza last year. The band was making good use of an off-night in between a trio of sold-out shows at the Wiltern , and took the late night opportunity to scold America's children with Wilco (The Album) 's "You Never Know." Wilco's Wilco (The Album) is released on Tuesday (June 30) and the band has already hit the promotional trail, performing "You Never Know" from the album on Conan O'Brien's show last night (June 24). The band members are dressed in "Nudie" suits for the occasion, tipping a hat to their obvious musical predecessors in the Flying Burrito Brothers. "You Never Know" was the first single released from the album, and displays their obvious affinity for country, the Rolling Stones and Randy Newman. Wilco brought "You Never Know" off their new album Wilco (the Album) to Conan O'Brien's show yesterday. It's not my favorite off the new record, but it sounded fantastic. And maybe it's Tweedy or maybe it's the Nudie Suits, but this live version made me focus on the words more than normal. Good tune.
