Nate Ruess (The Format) has decided to push some musical buttons here, much like Bryan Scary and The Shedding Tears by layering dense instrumentation, gospel choirs, electronic pulses and the kitchen sink. The weekend beckons, so does Saturday night. And while combing through my mountains of unread e-mail, I came across this one, announcing the new video for fun. 's (sorry, that's how the band renders its name) harmony-laden "All the Pretty Girls." It's a song that brings out the 17-year-old optimist in me. (Yeah, he's still there somewhere.) Which reminds me: I need to make the long-overdue mixtape about partying on Saturday nights, the subject of possibly one million pop songs over the decades. It may not be the most predictable decision to use All The Pretty Girls as the first single to create a music video for, but fun. obviously saw the potential in the song. In their new video, former lead singer of The Format and his new band members are chased around by a wild group of girls, reminiscent of the opening sequence of Austin Powers. It's eerily similar actually. While watching the video, I couldn't help but to feel a bit disappointed (fun. is one of my favorite bands). It's lack of originality shocked [...]

Say hello to the happiest band in the world. My mourning period for the Format is officially over with the release of fun. 's video for "All the Pretty Girls."
