In celebration of SPIN Magazine's 25 th Anniversary, they're throwing a week-long party in NYC featuring different bands each night. The schedule is pretty stout, featuring The Smashing Pumpkins , The Flaming Lips , The Black Keys , The National , Fang Island , Suckers , and many more. If you live in NYC, checking out the performances during SPIN 25 presented by ZYNC from American Express is certainly worth it. If you're like me and regretably not living in NYC (yet), you can [...]

Fang Island started off as an art project between some friends for school. The members say they used it as an excuse to cut class and smoke weed while still getting credit for college. Genius, right? Well the band finally decided that their music was good enough to pursue the band full time and left the whole college thing behind. Lucky for us, as Fang Island's recently released self-titled LP is one of the best I've heard this year. "Everyone high-fiving everyone" That's the description Fang Island give of their music and honestly i shouldn't have to say anymore...but I will. Mainly instrumental, this Brooklyn 5-piece string together euphoric guitar riffs, pounding basslines and tight-as-hell drumming to create epic, triumphant gatherings of sound. Curanga builts up slowly to an eruption of punk-fuelled, Thin Lizzy-esque, six-string mayhem. Its energy and its unashamed ballsiness is infectious, you just want to jump around and hug around in sight when its on. I get the sense that Fang Island use their music to bring people together, it has a real unity to it, [...]
