Canadian artist Feist joins Wilco on David Letterman where they performed the song You and I featured on Wilco's latest album entitled Wilco (The Album)

Wilco has been tearing up the late night circuit, appearing on David Letterman last night, with Feist lending her vocal talents to "You and I." It may be an oddly strange assumption that Wilco are the best band in America, but the assumption while sounding other-worldly is tastefully accurate. Before I venture off to watch Paul McCartney on Letterman, I thought I'd post last night's Letterman, in which Wilco and Feist took over the Ed Sullivan Theater for a nice version of "You and I". The band is clearly completely in synch and enjoying their time together. The vibe is relaxed, loose, and just pretty damn nifty.

As sweet as "You and I" sounds on Wilco (the album) , this clip from Letterman makes it feel downright adorable. Tweedy and Feist coo along together through the unassuming track, but can't help mugging and grinning at each other a little, and even end up pulling the classic sing-close-together-for-the-br idge move. The two certainly seem to have a blast performing together, and the rest of the Wilco fellas are happy to step back and let them have the spotlight. Now, this is more like it. After Wilco 's relatively uninspired performance on Conan a couple of weeks back, we were happy to see them nail "You And I" as they paid David Letterman a visit. Of course, it didn't exactly hurt things that Feist was on hand to help them out and add a fair dose of energy to the mix. As she sang with Tweedy, it was clear that he was more than a little happy to have her on hand, as was the rest of the band. [...]

Ticketholding Wilco fans in LA and NYC have already seen Leslie and Tweedy recreate their (The Band) vocal duet in the flesh; last night's Letterman was for the rest of us. Jeff and Feist enjoy a laid back but engaged rapport onstage that matches the dulcet mesh of their voices, one of those rare collaborative dynamics that enhances the song's meaning as much as it raises the song's profile.
