Per i Gossip , "Standing in the Way of Control" (2006), fu quello che gli americani chiamerebbero "breakthrough album". Il successo di "Standing in the Way of Control" è da attribuire al fatto che era un album interessante (aggiungevano una grossa componente soul al tipico "dance-punk" di quel periodo) ma sicuramente anche alla figura della cantante Beth Ditto , un vero e proprio personaggio fuori dagli schemi e ricercatissimo dalle riviste di (non a caso) gossip, rischiando di oscurare il lato musicale a favore dell' immagine.
