GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR ( Crystal Ballroom , 1332 W Burnside) After taking most of the last decade off, Montreal post-rockers Godspeed You! Black Emperor have returned at last, playing their majestic, instrumental epics to eager crowds-so eager, in fact, that tonight's show is all sold out. But you'll think of something, because who knows if they'll pass this way again? NED LANNAMANN YO LA TENGO, THE URINALS [...]
Yo La Tengo have been on the go since the mid-eighties, consistently producing great albums, one after another. So consistent that they run the risk of being overlooked or taken for granted. Earlier in the year the band released a covers record under the alias Condo Fucks . In September they released Popular Songs , which is arguably the finest record they've made to date. The band kick off their European/World tour this Thursday in Dublin's Tripod. State interrupted James McNew from his packing to discuss deadlines, tour buses and crazy teen sex comedies. [...]
You can't light a J to this one. You gotta eat some shrooms to this one. Or read some Soderberg to this one.
I finally listened to Untied States forthcoming new LP, Instant Everything, Constant Nothing , and it is a monster of a record. I don't even really know what to say about it yet, because it is so mindbogglingly unlike anything else. All I can say so far is wow. I'll be talking more about this one in the coming months, so for now here is a really cool new video for one the tracks from the new album, "Unsilvered Mirrors": Unsilvered Mirrors - from "Instant Everything, Constant Nothing" by Untied States [...]

Kolan Juutuubis. Ja avastan, et olen lemmikutesse lisanud igasugu põnevaid asju. Ikka mõttega, et kunagi blogisse postitada. Panen nüüd siis mitu tükki korraga. Seosed mõistagi puuduvad. Flying Lizards - And Then He Kissed Me Yo La Tengo - Here To Fall Delphic - This Momentary Acidkids [...]

Yo La Tengo's been generous with advance listens of their lovely and nostalgic new collection Popular Songs , so far offering previews via a pair of must-grab MP3s (the chilled-out '60s organ funk of " Periodically Double Or Triple ," the Melody Nelson strings of " Here To Fall ") and a raucous live take (see " Nothing To Hide " for French TV). The breezy, impossibly summery "Avalon Or Something Very Similar" makes it an even four from the set, here soundtracking visuals of sugarcube-sweet faces, and hypnotic triangles, and green parks, by director John McSwain. [...]
Changing it up a bit. Each week I'll showcase a different artist's catolauge of music videos. This week, indie heroes Yo La Tengo, who will be kicking it at the Treasure Island Festival in San Francisco this year. Yo La Tengo - Here To Fall Yo La Tengo - Sugarcube Yo La Tengo - I Feel Like Going Home (Live from 89.3 The Current) [...]

Is it my imagination or is Yo La Tengo getting the most serious promotion it's ever received leading up to a new album? "Here To Fall" is a new song and video release from the longtime indie gods. Matador is doing a Buy Early Get Now promotion with the new album.

Plenty to report in advance of the release of Yo La Tengo's latest studio effort Popular Songs . Set to hit stores on September 8th, Popular Songs will be the band's seventh album on Matador Records and Yo La Tengo's first since 2006's I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass (in both instances this does not include this past March's Fuckbook released on Matador which Yo La Tengo recorded under the band name Condo Fucks).
