Ever since this May's Paul Simon cover songs collection, a follow-up starring Bruce Springsteen — a figure similarly oft-cited as inspiration to our favorite indie acts — has been in the works. The hard part, though, has been that there are dozens of versions of the Boss floating around, some brilliant and others falling a bit short despite showing plenty of reverence for their hero. Given Frightened Rabbit's recent tribute to the blue-collar icon and Kurt Vile's forthcoming studio take on "Downbound Train," now feels like a good time to compile the best or [...]

It's Ezra Koenig as you've never heard him before - demure, gravelly and totally owning Bruce Springsteen. Having recently waxed lyrical to Pitchfork about his love for the 'I'm Goin' Down' and it's "weird mix of cheerful and bummed out", he channels those feelings into a delicate, impassioned performance.

Over the weekend Vampire Weekend covered Bruce Springsteen's "I'm Going Down" at one of their live shows. I wished for a studio version of because I enjoyed it so much. Well I sorta got my wish. Of "I'm Going Down" he says, "For a while, "I'm Goin' Down" was my favorite, and I listened to that constantly. Partially, it may have been the headspace that I was in at the time. It had this happy feel, but somewhat depressing lyrics about going down. There's this weird mix of bummed out and cheerful about going down. That [...]
When not getting sued for $2 million by Ann Kirsten Kennis , Vampire Weekend keep themselves busy playing some of the biggest festivals in the world, and trying their hand at covering the Boss. The quartet from New York City have added Bruce Springsteen's 1985 hit 'I'm Goin' Down' to their recent setlists. The band performed the song recently at an acoustic session for Seattle radio session 107.72s show The End . The acoustic version is a stripped down cover of Springsteen's ballad, and takes away much of the bombast (and the sax solo) [...]
