Video: The Hold Steady - Chips Ahoy!

I was getting pretty sick of this song to be honest. Then I saw this video. Now I like it again. Fickle, I know. I will not, however, be changing my mind about mayonnaise, sour cream, or tartar sauce. Those items are gross.

The UK music press has been quick to mythologise the connection that the Hold Steady's articulate blue-collar rock has made in an imagined American 'heartland'. But transposed to the UK (and, Craig Finn complains, deprived of offers of dope as a result), can their bittersweet communal schtick live up to expectations? The Hold Steady in Philly last night completely and utterly rocked it at The North Star bar. Some observations: 1 - Craig Finn has better hand moves than Jay-Z 2 - The boys busted out some Brian May-esque guitar lines while Franz combines the flair of the E Street's Professor Roy and the sinewy dope synths of Dr. Dre. Hot. 3 - If The Killers want to be Bruce Springsteen so bad, they need to buy the new Hold Steady record but more important see them live. [...]
