Scottish electro-wiz Calvin Harris released his debut I Created Disco back in 2007 and instantly made a name for himself. I actually really liked his debut with all the retro sounds and was looking forward to his follow-up. That is until I gave his latest release Ready for the Weekend. This is probably one of the worst albums I've heard in years. Cheesy 80's synths with uninspiring beats, ridiculous 'We get a thrill from clapping our hands, we find the nearest girl and ask her to dance' lyrics and an overall feeling of replicating the worst of the 80's or [...]

Calvin Harris has been working on his sophomore album - Ready for the Weekend - for quite some time now. And quite frankly, it's ticking me off. Dude's I Created Disco was remarkably on point, and thus expectations for the upcoming release are off the charts. Thank goodness August 17th has finally arrived. (See: I'm impatient.) Luckily, Mr. Harris's most recent single - the title track "Ready for the Weekend" - is a tune and a half that's held me over for the past week or so (it dropped on August 8th). Yea, [...]
I wasn't rally up on this song but after this video I definitely went back to check it out. In the video, Calvin gets a bunch of bikini-clad girls to jump on these electric pads that make certain noises and using their bodies as conductors of electricity he recreates his new single "Ready for the [...]
Loved by the kids and oddly ignored by the arbiters of good taste, ( except, of course, this man ) Calvin Harris is on a roll with another great track destined for numero uno. Well, it would be if that rancid roasted peanut, Peter Andre wasn't bleating on about his failed marriage to tits-on-a-stick Jordan to squeeze a few more sales. Tinchy Stryder aside (but 7 out of 10 for effort), Calvin is quite close to nabbing the top spot, according to the midweeks . Now, XO's observation that Ready For the Weekend is another example [...]
Out right now! Calvin's second album 'Ready For The Weekend' is out on August 17th. Download Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend

David Kitt returns to Whelans on September 18th, with support from France's Get Back Guinozzi . Finlay Quaye plays The Village, Dublin on September 11th, ahead of a new album due next year. Richter Collective presents Kidd Blunt at Whelans on August 21st and Bats ' album launch on August 29th at Andrews Lane Theatre. Fred have announced [...]
CALVIN HARRIS is droppin a new single two weeks from today called Ready for the Weekend . Check out the video above and enjoy!

Following up his surprisingly effective flashback to arena-sized '90's rave "I'm Not Alone" , Calvin Harris unleashes yet another irresistable foot-mover with "Ready For The Weekend", a feel-good dance-pop entry focused on the anticipated thrills of a post-work week break. "So if you're waiting, jump out your skin/ To find a cure for whatever state your in", advises the robo-nerd voiced-Harris as prancey keyboard hits surround him with their giddy, child-like tone. But all of his thinnish singing efforts bear little importance once UK singer Mary Pearce enters the picture for the chorus, bringing [...]
He sucked ass when I saw him live, but he seems to be making good shit. I guess he just wasn't trying, which is wack, but this is still dope. Calvin Harris: Ready For The Weekend Right click link and press save as...

It's taken us a while to come around to Calvin Harris' new sound, less retro-disco than his debut album, and more house/club inspired, but we've been spinning his latest single (and title track to his upcoming album due out August 19th) Ready For The Weekend a lot lately, and we're really digging it. We didn't love the lead single, I'm Not Alone , but everyone else seemed to... it debuted at #1 on the UK charts. Check out the pretty fancy video for the new single below, and grab the Fred Falke remix to the new single [...]

Sooo much great dance music comes out of the UK but I can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVE Calvin Harris . He's def one of my favorite Brit's right now. I first heard of him back when I started TILT. His "Acceptable in the 80's" tune was a #1 hit IMO back then and the rest of the UK thought the same, hitting #1 on the dance singles charts. I swooped up the album after hearing that track & I recommend that any dance music lover do the same. There are soo [...]

You soon will be. Calvin Harris' brilliant new single is out on August 10th, and it's got a brilliant video to match. I've also managed to grab two of the remixes from the single, from mysterious bass-head Fake Blood and drum'n'bass don High Contrast. This post is intended to be a 'recap' of meaningful music videos of the past blog month, and perform analysis on the portrayal of the artists. Video: Julian Casablancas - PHRAZES FOR THE YOUNG (PREVIEW) Analysis: This is a new project by the lead singer of the Strokes bro. Wonder what it is going to sound like. Seems sort of 'deep' but will possibly become 'over commercialized.' I think he has collabed on some other crap, and it 'sounded good' possibly. [...]

If you thought Calvin Harris' next single from his upcoming album was going to sound more like last year's "Dance Wiv Me" or even "I Created Disco" (guilty as charged), think again! Calvin surprised many of us earlier this year with his first single "I'm Not Alone", which I can only describe as...singer-songwriter trance ballad. Upon first listen of "Ready for the Weekend", I really didn't know what to think (except of Elton John ), but it's really starting to grow on me. Take the ultimate Gotta Dance Dirty™ challenge: try to have a bad day while [...]
Here are a couple of pretty awesome Drum and Bass remixes of two Calvin Harris tracks. For some reason I feel like you could drop these into any dance set and get away with it, even if no one in the crowd had heard of Drum and Bass. Both retain Harris' signature pop sensibilities. By the way I threw in the Fake Blood remix, I figured our readers would like it, but its not as good as the High Contrast Drum and Bass Remix.
