Congratualtions to Soundgarden for finally cashing in and being the lead single on a mega summer blockbuster superhero flick. Their new video for the track "Live to Rise," their first new song in forever, serves as a giant advertisement for the Avengers movie which comes out this weekend (well, tonight at midnight for the superdorks). ...

It's pretty easy to take shots at Soundgarden in 2012. Their reunion is two years deep, and the band had yet to release a new recording. Until they laid down a track for a superhero movie soundtrack, that is. Yeah, easy shots. Nonetheless, here's the video for their first studio track in fifteen years, complete with The Avengers running around causing mayhem and a big, unneeded explosion.

It's convenient that Soundgarden would release the video for their new song, "Live To Rise", on the day I'm seeing The Avengers at midnight. " Live To Rise " is the first new Soundgarden studio song in a decade and a half, and it shows up on the soundtrack to The Avengers . So you'd hope that the video would feature Kim Thayil fighting Loki or whatever. Alas, the clip goes the time-honored route of showing the band playing in an airplane hanger, interspersed with footage from the movie that you've already seen in the trailers.
