"Chained" is the latest track to surface from Coexist , the highly anticipated sophomore album by The xx . Ambient and sultry, backed throughout by a soft, palpitating beat and utilizing little guitar work until the more rousing ending — it's the kind of understated, yet lush track we've come to expect from the UK group. Even more moving than the music itself are the lyrics, which tell the story of a faltering relationship and lovers who are growing apart. The repeated line, " We used to be closer than this… " is especially heartbreaking. [...]

The xx have let loose another cut off of their forthcoming sophomore LP, the second official single titled "Chained". The song is a calm affair, with catchy production and the band's trademark atmospheric guitar riffs melding perfectly together in this near-three minute track. Stream it below. September 11th is when we'll get a sophomore album from bedroom pop outfit The xx, ( Coexist , via Young Turks ) but they've already loosed two tracks to help us stave off impatience. Just before you call it an office day the XX keep you at your desk for an extra 165 sex via new mp3, CHAINED , and it's trippy but not too trippy visual treat.

The xx blew everyone away with their simple and subtle single "Angels," and has kept everyone on their toes on what else we expect from their sophomore album Coexist . Lately, their track "Chained" has been performed at live venues and been shown only in videos, but today we have their video which seems like an extension of their psychedelic visuals for "Angels."

Did the xx's previous single, " Angels ", leave you wanting something a little more laid-back from the London trio? Well, then you're going to adore "Chained". It retains the romantic aspect of "Angels" while injecting a strong dose of Burial's trademark percussion style. Oh, and those guitars that come in two thirds of the way through "Chained"?
