As we get ourselves ready for the end of summer and the bone-crushing cold that comes with the change of season, it's time to focus important things like family, friends, and getting heavily intoxicated while listening to one spectacular band after another - you know, the important things. So it is with great joy in our hearts that we pack up our things and ship out to Austin for one of our last festivals of the year, the illustrious Austin City Limits . In order to properly prepare our psyches (and yours) for the [...]
Today, the surreal becomes a reality as Arcade Fire arrives at Jazz Fest for a headlining set at 5:25. Back in February, Arcade Fire was awarded the cherished Album of the Year Grammy for their 3rd LP, The Suburbs, easily the Canadian band's most accessible effort to date. To generalize, the casual music listener is understandably unaware of Arcade Fire, and if you don't listen to satellite radio, pour through music magazines or go blogosphere-mining on a regular basis, you could have possibly missed this band until now.
This song makes me think of Christmas for some reason. In an almost gloomy but uplifting way. I think it's the music and the vocal harmonies and "oooaaahs" throughout. I could imagine it being sang as a Christmas carol by a massive childrens choir. Something filled up My heart with nothing Someone told me not to cry But now that I'm older My heart's colder And I can see that it's a lie Children, wake up Hold your mistake up Before they turn the [...]

Is it bad that I really don't want my favorite bands to be nominated for Grammy awards? Neil Young didn't win a Grammy until this year. Kurt Cobain won after he died. Since 2001, the music industry's sham awards show has dubbed a best alternative album (won three times each by White Stripes and Radiohead ). Arcade Fire is not only up for best "alternative" album but is nominated for best album overall. To win the very best album, Arcade Fire will have to [...]

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: While doing a little browsing yesterday I happened to notice a couple of videos on Pitchfork that might be worth your time. Both feature Tame Impala out in the middle of nowhere performing hazy numbers off the recently released and rather good Innerspeaker. Check them out. I know the new Arcade Fire singles are everywhere, but unlike the little two-songer they put out a few weeks back, I actually found myself instantly drawn in [...]

For many the third album by Arcade Fire is highly anticipated, with the Canadian powerhouses previous albums, 'Funeral' and 'Neon Bible' sending shockwaves across the world upon release. They have given their fans a sneak peak of what we can expect by releasing two sample tracks on their website . The sample tracks are only short which is frustrating to say the least, as I know the album is going to epic. However, we only have to wait a short period of time for the release with the band [...]
Throughout the holidays, Arcade Fire was heard incessantly on commercial radio. Even the Mayans couldn't have predicted that, but thanks to the usage of the track, "Wake Up" for the trailer of "Where the Wild Things Are," mainstream America got a taste of recent greatness. The track was personally selected by director Spike Jonze, who mentioned the Montreal band will participate in his upcoming short film. Casting for the film is taking place in Austin, TX and is said to be about "friends growing apart", and that it is set to be a short movie. Between [...]

Filed under: News , Television Just one day after the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti caused an unimaginable amount of destruction and death, Montreal's Arcade Fire posted a message to their website imploring fans to help by donating money to Partners in Health . That charitable organization had clinics already in place in the areas surrounding hard-hit capital city Port-au-Prince where the medical infrastructure was nonexistent following the quake. The post by the band on their website began with, "Friends, Haiti needs your help in her darkest [...]

Can't believe it's already been a decade. I'm trying to think about the person I used 2 be back in 1999. I wonder how familiar I am with that bro, or how much I respect him. Theoretically, I have grown up and become a more 'cultured' person with a developed+refined taste in all aspects of life, including my favourite music. Piecing together 'The Best Albums/Artists/Songs/Bands of the Decade' seems tricky, like some sort of existential reflection of urself. I feel like most websites that focus on music create 'best of year/decade' [...]

A half-century in, anyone who can make a rock and roll record that sounds strange and unprecedented pulls off quite a feat. Emo in the best possible sense of the word, this is music that makes something well up inside, a rising of voices and flicker of light. Luminous. Funeral - Arcade Fire
@gimme_noise: TWITTER POLL! What band do you think best sums up the sound of the '00s?
This version is my favorite! Sound familiar?

This sounds so much better than the soundtrack to Little Bear
Obsessed with Where the Wild Things Ar e trailer? I can't seem to get Arcade Fire's Wake Up out of my head now... gettin his fix - tabloid junkie.

My iPod alarm clock woke me up at the ungodly hour of 6:30 today (note: Somehow I still managed to show up late for work). Appropriately, the song was Wake Up from my reigning favorite Canadian indie band Arcade Fire . For whatever reason I didn't post this song until today, even though it was one of the songs that inspired me to start this blog. Anyways, Wake Up comes from the band's debut full-length album Funeral , which has to be one of the best debut releases in recent history. Funeral would go on to be nominated [...]
