Hanne (pronounced Hannah I think); windswept Bob Dylan was actually the first person to introduce me to Hanne Hukkelberg . His radio show played some interesting tracks at the time, not the least was a bouncing, off-kilter diddy named "Do Not As I Do" by the Nordic native. And though her name constantly reminds me of a certain childhood masterpiece , she also makes some incredibly innovative music. Since age three she's played jazz, rock, industrial gothic prog metal and brooded in a doom metal band in high school aptly named [...]

by Andrew Frisicano If you can imagine it, Norwegian singer Hanne Hukkelberg used to carry vocals for doom metal band Funeral before settling into her own atmospheric folk. She's in NYC this weekend - her first show is at the Bell House on Friday, February 12th with The Watson Twins (who are at the Living Room tonight, 2/11 - for WFUV members only ) and La Strada . A sweet new video from Hanne.

I must be in a Norwegian pop kind of mood. Though this is definitely a different flavor than Eva and The Heartmaker. Actually, I immediately thought of Tegan & Sara when I first heard this. Hanne Hukkelberg apparently started her musical career in metal bands, which could explain her penchant for using unusual noises/instrumentation in what might otherwise have been pretty straightforward pop songs. 'Blood From A Stone' is an hypnotic, swirling carnival ride, reminiscent of the more palatable side of Bjork. I'm sold! The video isn't too engaging, but the song makes up for it. [...]

Scandinavia is Better than Your Region. My love for the Northern European region is certainly well documented , so when I discover some lovely new music from three different Scandinavian countries in one week, its a big deal for me. Everyone's favorite proggy Danish band, Mew (no, not that mew ), have released a couple tracks from their upcoming LP, entitled N o More Stories Are Told Today I'm Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories the World Is Grey I'm Tired Let's Wash Away [...]
A commenter on her YouTube recently said Hanne Hukkelberg looks like Hayden Panettiere (bit of a stretch but maybe in this video, yes) but sounds like Karen O. The description, and my resulting LOLZ, struck me as one of the more hilarious blends of comic book, TV geek and indie boy wet dreams. The Norwegian indiejazz singer recently released a new video for the track Blood from a Stone ... Buy Blood From A Stone [...]
