Listening to the Red House Painters' brilliant album, Ocean Beach, I was reminded of how much I liked the song Summer Dress, which got me thinking about other "Dress" related songs I've liked, which of course reminded me of the best "Dress" song, My Favourite Dress, from The Wedding Present. Finally another danceable UK rock band I'm really excited about ( see Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party ) - one that will still likely play a bunch of smaller venues in the U.S. ( doesn't count ). This Brighton based 5 piece do not leave many clues about where they are from. The Maccabees sound and style are very British and very bouncy. Following in the paths of both historic Brit bands like The Kinks and also in the recent wave of "art-rock" acts such as Bloc Party and Dogs Die In Hot Cars, The Maccabees are in good company. The Maccabees debut stateside album Colour It In was released today. I don't know a whole lot about these guys, but since they will be opening for Bloc Party starting on May 27th, I thought the release was newsworthy. Spinner is streaming the whole album.
