The Grammy's just got over and done with a few hours ago. As usual, the RIAA missed out on a lot, so here's a Five at 5 featuring five Grammy Award categories with songs that maybe should have won instead (or songs that were better off not winning, whichever way you think). Check it out. 1. Madeon - 'Icarus' - Best Dance Recording I first heard of young Madeon through Pete Tong last year. Last I heard, he was on the Lolla 2013 in Brazil and Chile, after playing Coachella, the Electric Daisy, and [...]

It's that time of year again. The holidays are upon us, December is flying by, it's getting colder (in theory- Nashville did not so much get the memo on that one), and the music industry is mostly on an extended vacation. Record releases have basically come to a halt, tours are winding down, awards season is preparing to gear up, and basically every single magazine and website that writes about music is releasing a year-end list in some form or another. We at No Country are preparing our own year-end lists for release very soon, but in the time being [...]

2012 has been a pretty good year for albums - and an eclectic one too. From the pounding electronic-soup-hop throb of El-P through to Beta Band -esque newcomers Django Django , this year‘s seen old acts returning to form and newcomers snatching at brilliance. Looking at the 2012 ‘top albums of the year’ lists that have been published elsewhere, a handful of names keep popping up. And a few of them appear here too. For hip-hop heads Kendrick Lamar [...]

Jack White has never been straightforward. While his previous projects like The White Stripes and The Raconteurs managed accessibility and abstraction, White’s first solo release, Blunderbuss , fully embraces the strange. To be blunt, White’s first solo offering may be his strangest release to date; however, his abstraction doesn’t prove fully problematic. With an inherent schizophrenia woven through each track, White presents a departure from the musical landscape listeners are familiar with. In lieu of familiarity, White puts forth some of the most bizarre and ambiguous songs to date. [...]
It's time again to look at those songs we all need most; the ones that make our work day faster. This is the annual Caffeinated Consciousness list for 2012! It is time once again to compile the list obligatory's Caffeinated Consciousness list. Those of us who have to keep [...]

![[Outside Lands 2012] Top Five Songs We Can't Wait to Hear Live](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4439919_lg.jpg)
This Friday marks the beginning of this year's Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, the fifth edition of the cultural highlight. SKOA will be attending the festival this year, and each day leading up to the festival we will be dishing out a feature focused on the bands set to appear at Outside Lands. Today, our spotlight is focused on the top five songs we cannot wait to hear live at the festival. No matter how good a band's repertoire is, [...]
The nominations for this year's curiously Lady Gaga -less MTV VMAs are out, and to our pleasant surprise, or perhaps chagrin, some of our favorite names came up a few times, including a Best New Artist nomination for Frank Ocean ("Swim Good") and a Video of the Year nomination for M.I.A. ("Bad Girls"). In the technical categories, you'll find the likes of Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky nominated for more serious things like Art Direction, Cinematography and Editing. Also worth [...]
Three debuts make it into our next batch of albums of the year to date, although it's hard to think of Jack White's Blunderbluss in such terms after a wealth of different projects. It is his first solo excursion, though, and holds its own against the much talked about Ms Del Rey and not talked about enough alt-J. Throw in yet another exquisite effort from Chromatics and the sound of an Irish band truly coming of age and we're done for today. 10. Jack White - Blunderbuss [...]
Filed under: The Hit List , Spinner Says Redferns (2) | FilmMagic Rather than bore you with our oh-so-deep thoughts on our favorite records from the first half of 2012, we decided to do something different. Chances are, you're already listening to these albums, so we offered up a handy guide on how to best enjoy this great music, often with a beverage pairing. We recommend you try all of these, and if you think we missed [...]
My favorite albums of 2012 (so far) continue today with some really exciting releases, including the solo debut from the one and only Jack White , the exciting debut from Kishi Bashi , and the beautiful new release from Lost in the Trees — A Church That Fits Our Need . If you haven't already, be sure to check out Part 1 [...]
In the grand tradition of our month-plus-early list of the year's best albums so far , here's a look at the music videos that made us look twice this year. We get bombarded with these things every day, and so many of them seem to be made with minimal effort: Fuzzy stock footage, all-lens-flare romantic cinematography, bits of imagery that barely relate to each other, let alone the song. But if the selection of clips below teaches us anything, it's that there are about a million different ways to make an effective video; all you really need is a [...]

I often pass on giveaways I'm offered as they generally involve bands or artists I'm not really into. NOT THIS TIME . Jack White's debut solo record Blunderbuss is a really, really great record. When the White Stripes announced their split I was pretty bummed as they had been one of my favourite bands the last decade (and always killer live). And while a solo Jack White record was inevitable, I don't think I really comprehended what that meant until I heard Blunderbuss for the first time. What does it mean? [...]

Alright kids, time to actually wake up and do a little typing for once. Winnie is giving away one Vinyl copy, and two CD's of Jack White's recent album "Blunderbuss". The album is sick, enough said... those of you who haven't heard it or would like a little physical diddy for keepsake check it OUT . Tell me why you deserve a copy of Jack White's latest album "Blunderbuss" in the comment section below. Best answer will receive a vinyl copy, second and third runners up will get a CD! Given [...]
Getting laudatory across the board for his solo album 'Blunderbuss' released late last month (John's review of it here ), we thought it was about time we posted the video for Jack White 's 'Sixteen Saltines', one of the harder rockers on the album. Watch it below. Note: we don't condone any of the hooliganism of the video, although I think we can all agree throwing the bread on the ceiling was harmless and funny. Jack White is a man that needs no introduction. He's one of the most iconic rock stars that have emerged in the past decade and has achieved some significant things in our time. It's safe to say Jack White sounds like nobody and nobody sounds like Jack White. That's quite the distinction. Blunderbuss is the first solo effort from Jack White and it's a fantastic record. It was released in late April and if you haven't already got it (or want a duplicate copy) then we have a pleasant contest for you! [...]

Por Mariano Fiochetta The White Stripes , The Raconteurs , The Dead Weather , Rome (con Danger Mouse , Daniele Luppi y Norah Jones ). Colaboraciones por todos lados con otros músicos, cameos en películas y producción de discos. ¿Qué le podía quedar hacer a Jack White en su imparable carrera artística? Ah, sí… sacar un disco solista. [...]
The long anticipated debut solo album, Blunderbuss, from iconic rocker and semi-celebrity Jack White, officially dropped this week to a huge amount of buzz and publicity. While the advanced reviews have been largely positive, it is only in the past few days that most fans have been able to get their hands on the official [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Blunderbuss is not the The White Stripes , or The Raconteurs , or The Dead Weather . It’s an album built straight from the mind of Jack White . A guy born too late, who’s always on the move, always creating, and never doing the same thing twice. Blunderbuss is an eccentric, vaudevillian show produced by a mad-man, and it’s amazing. Listening to Blunderbuss is like going on a stroll through Jack White’s mind. It has an “era-gone-past” vibe to it, and can be a happy, sad [...]
