Major Organ and the Adding Machine was originally thought to be a side-project of Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster (both of Neutral Milk Hotel). But the project has grown to include the Elephant Six Orchestra and many others. In March 2001, a CD entitled Major Organ and the Adding Machine was released on Orange Twin Records. While the mysterious Major Organ is the apparent leader of this project, some of the contributors were Kevin Barnes (of Montreal), Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Julian Koster ( (Elf Power).
